1988 was the last year a USAC champion won the title using the same car on dirt and pavement. Steve Butler turned the trick in the Jeff Stoops #1. Another interesting fact about that scenario. Butler ran the Kings Royal at Eldora on a Saturday night and was at Salem the next day with the same car! We will likeley nexr see those days again.

It worked out well at the time to get car counts up. I saw a few good USAC Winged shows back then!

It stunk in my view as it was always cherry picked by ASCOC or even WoO cars and it didn't raise the count much at all.

Was the Dave Blaney driven #40 pictured there one of the Stanton cantilever chassis? And where could a list of the USAC wing shows of that period be found?

It did not help with the car counts. I believe only 2 teams made all the races.
