I think a lot of it has to do with dollars, cents and hunger. The top guys who live and race in the Midwest are doing it for a living. Don't perform and they do not eat. Out here if drivers - with the exception of one - do not perform well, they still have a job they go to Monday through Friday.
Most drivers in Indiana have regular jobs too. I think the difference is they race three times a week and don't need to drive 3 or 4 hours , one way, to do it.

By the end of June they have already driven the equivalent of a full season in Cali.
