That might have been one that happened on 4/11/70 Jim and the driver was Bobby Grim. He flipped the midget number 18 on his first time trial lap and, as you say, was thrown out. Very nasty flip. I believe Bobby suffered a broken ankle. 47 cars that day. 40 lap feature was won by Mel Cornett.

Speaking of "brutal sprint car wrecks" one of the worst looking flips I recall was by Dale Breedlove in Jim McElreath's sprinter.

Fishburger, you are absolutely right on that. It was Bobby Grim and he was qualifying. Those were some good days for the midgets. Big fields and good racing.
