Isn't a D1 midget the same as a USAC national midget or POWERi midget? I thought D1 was just the name of the USAC regional midget series.

As of now I am planning on comming to race my 1000cc upright and i have raced with the midgets before and it takes forever to get them lined up and pushed off not to mention everytime we have raced with them they just want to run the mini sprints over.

Thats why I said I guess I wouldnt mind running with them, if it's for the good of the event so the promotor can do it again next season im for it. I think the event would carry more weight as a Lightning Sprint Nat. if only lightning sprints were involved.

I assumed and we all know what assume is "you can make an ASS out of U and ME..So yes you guy's are right the D1 or USAC or POWRi will not be allowed to race. Maybe the Focus or EcoTec..What I along with a couple of other series are looking at is allowing a quick change rear end next year 2012....Wait a minute before you get your panties in a wad....look at the positive side of this....The absolute best thing about lightning sprints is cost especially in the engine department. Going to a quick change rearend will update the cars, allow you to buy regular midget cars to convert, make cockpit area bigger, and cut drive maintenance in half. This will eliminate any chance of a chain breaking an engine case. All cars will still have to be self starting and have all gears in the tranny. I know this is a very big plus for the Lightning sprint cars to be self sufficient. Remember to look at the big picture. Yes in the beginning it will cost more to put a brand new car together but in the long run it will save you money due to chain and sprocket maintenance.

How much HP will you lose running through a rear end as opposed to a chain drive? I've heard somewhere in the nieghborhood of 10%. This is one of the reason our cars are 2-3 seconds faster than the mod lights.

I like my chains and sprockets that being said I believe it was stated that quick change rears would be allowed, not mandated ?

Probably 20% loss in gears, Have you looked at our chassis ,tires , weight and ability to change gear ratios for track conditions as a few other reasons we are faster than the mod lights. The Focus cars and Kenyon cars are not going to want to race with us, we can eat them alive. The echotec's and us are probably pretty well matched. We spot the full midget about 100-125 Hp. My car and driver cross the scales at about 1000 lbs without the wing, Im thinking a midget would have to weigh in about 1200 lbs or so to even up the HP difference. If we went to a midget rear end we would also add about 100 more lbs to the car weight That would make us 1100 lbs so now I think the midgets would also have to add another 100 lbs too. Look at our motor design with crank relationship to drive sprocket relationship are we going to have to change off set motor rules?

No quick changes are not an update just a different way of doing things

Hey Dad....on a regular series as mine is the racers without a starter or a transmission with all the gears intact along with a clutch would not be allowed because of the non self starting issue. The lightnings have that advantage and I promise you every promoter in Florida like that....Quick change would be an OPTION...NOT MANDATED!!! here in Florida with all the sand and grit we eat up chains and gears...what ever you you have or even the best maintenance it chews them up...3 chains and 6 sprockets this year on mine after 26 shows and the hassle few gear changes or re squaring the rear end would be great... not trying to become a midget series but a stand out lightning sprint series where they can go to a track and start getting some serious monies......

This is why I love this forum as a promoter and car owner you can get alot of input and help making the right decisions...thank all of ya for the GREAT input....we series directors can use it to grow and spread the word about LIGHTNING SPRINTS the best up and coming racing in th nation!!!!!!!!
