Actually I've come to really dislike the super slick quarter huggy pole racing. However a bigger banked slicky isn't to bad if it isn't to dusty.
Also its not much fun watching twenty guys do qualifying laps for 30 laps with no passing on a super tacky one groove. Racing? In name only.
However Ive seen surprises on both types and its what makes racing great. Expecially if one driver/team figures out something the others didn't and makes a run.
Two of the races I seen last year were slickies and both times the winner fell way back before winning. These were Brownstown sprint week and Fall PVille USAC. Exciting and unexpected aren't the words. UNREAL is more like it!
Two or more grooves all night is hard to achieve, But when it happens. Now thats racin. Say what you will about bloomington but when two or more cars battle side by side for muliple laps. One precision bottom driving and the other balls out biking on the cushion.
PRICELESS and don't stop going till you see it! Once in ten races is worth every penny.
I guess I prefer a "sorta" dry/slick. it's what I grew up on, so it develops better throttle control, IMHO, and we didn't know you couldn't pass, but we did know you don't wait till the final 5 laps to make a move, ya gotta commit early, those video's from Ventura are good examples, those guys let er all hang out, and you got bottom feeders, and cushion cats, and those remind me of Twin Cities, the camera angle, makes it look like it has a high bank, but it's flatter than flat, prepped properly, hardly any dust. If you're gonna run dirt, in Indiana, you better learn to run dry/slick! Sometimes wish I could go back to those days, but not likely! Bob!
"Being old, isn't half as much fun, as getting there"! Ole Robert I!
The perfect track is slick in the middle with a cushion on top and some moisture downstairs to get a hold of too. This kind of track produces the best racing. As far as my personal favorite to watch or race on is a heavy track because it's just plain fun to stand on the gas! Posted via Mobile Device
A tacky and heavy track is good. As the night goes on let the
midgets-sprints-champ dirt cars move the cushion up. Bringing
the push trucks to roll in cushion to the fence is not good. Angell
Park-Kokomo-Haubstadt are some of the best prepared tracks I've seen.
Best Regards,
John
I like watching on a heavy track. I did most my winning on a rubbered up slick track, mainly because I got out balled by maniacs when the track was heavy, but I seem to have a better feel of the track then most, which is important on a slick track. Of course ths is on two wheels, not sure how relevent it is here. Opps theres that relevent word again, lol.
