I feel for you. Had to put my dog of 16 years down a week ago today. It is as much a loss as loosing any other member of your family in my opinion.

When we had to put one of our Boxers down a friend gave me a book about animals going to a place called the Rainbow Bridge where they wait to go into heaven with their masters when they pass on,too. It probably sounds like a load of bs but it helped us get through losing a good friend. Sorry for your loss.

Nothin silly about it. As others have said, they are family members. We have two golden retrievers and one has bone cancer. She has lasted 4 months longer than the Vet thought she would, but its gonna be hard to have to put her down. We were going to take some time off from Dogs many years ago when we had to put our last golden down, but after 2 months we had two rescue dogs! Hope it all works our for you.

Sorry bout your pup. My dogs are very important to us. We refer ourselves as a pack, not a family. We just added another one a few months ago that we got from the pound. He was thrown from a car and had a broken leg and tail, hence no one would adopt him. We did and he's turning into a fantastic dog. I have more compassion for dogs then I do most people. Besides that I pity any fool who would try to break into our place.

Jerry, I'm so sorry. They are part of the family and it hurts like heck when they leave us. Just know that Buddy is not in pain and that he is up there watching over you. My sympathies go out to you and your family.

Jerry,

Sorry to hear about Buddy. As you can tell by the number of posts here, companions like Buddy are extremely special. I lost my granddog Watson last year when my son had to have him put down. My son and daughter-in-law I think took it harder than the kids did. Though I wasn't with him everyday, I still do miss the big lug.
