The one that gets me is the guy who has a 40 foot enclosed trailer a custom painted helmet, a custom wrap for his car, a nice pit mule, but races in a five year fire suit that is almost see through.
It is not only the budget racers that are stupid. A lot of drivers with the big budgets are stupid as well.

unfortunately, I see a lot of this. There's a track champion out here that repaired his suit with duct tape. Wonder what the fire rating is for that. Had a photographer send in a photo of a driver with flames coming out from under his car and he's not wearing gloves.
Why is this allowed?
A track official told me earlier this year that no race promoter is going to turn a driver away who has cash money because of his safety equipment. I've not been back to that track.
God only gives you one body. Take care of it.

When I was a race official I dogged more than one driver about his safety equipment. They would ask me why I was hassling them about whatever it was. I'd tell them cause I care about you & don't want to see you get hurt. That goes for all drivers & crew members too. The race season is all but done so people take a looooong look at your safety equipment. I care about you, even if I don't know you, God Bless.

On a side, but important note......RACERS: Please, Please, Please check with whoever launders your safety equipment and make sure they check the information on the detergent they are using....Particularly liquid detergents....They can leave a flammable residue...This warning also goes out to children's clothing......Powder detergents are better for this situation!!!!
I was also unaware of this until a local laundering service washed my suit, because I didnt have time.....
