They check midget tires at BMARA races and at Powri races. I think USAC does to but I didn't pay enough attention when I ran with them.lol... Also found it interesting that at a weekly sprint car race, the track not only checked the tire but, durometered it as well. Like Rob said there is a big variation but at least they were checking!

All this talk of what to to about midget racing but, I think its been said before, the sanctioning bodies need to start checking for the rules that they have in place and then work in some new measures to try to ease the pain(woops i mean cost, lol) a little.

I also don't think the size of the tire is an issue I think its more to do with the compound.

Just some thoughts....(not that they mean much)

Rob, does USAC have a range that they deem legal as far as the durometer readings? I've heard of instances were tires are doped with various chemicals and I was curious if those particular tires would duro'd softer then normal.

I know go-kart organizations have fought for years on spec tires, tire additives, durometer tests and even having "sniffers" that can tell if a tire has an additive on it or in it.

That's exactly why the durometer rule doesn't work. If you do, it's got to be set a bit lower than what you want due to heat in tires, and sealing over of tires. I know it's only micro sprints, but the top 7 at US-24 this year got DQ'd for having to soft of tires, and according to the rules, the tires they were using should have passed.
