I will have to stick up for the loyal racers that have already supported our races and it is growing in popularity. We already have a number of "yes" commitmets for Soggy Bottom Speedway, Morgantown, Kentucky and and 10 more that I have talked to that are going to try and make the trip for the $200. guarantee tow money. Some racers have already made the 4 to 6 hour tow to our races, maybe this is why our races have been so competitive. These guys really want to race and realize this is a situation that has a future for them. The people that work with me in the SCORA Series also do a great job and work hard to see this grow and have a future. There would not have been an MSCS Series today if the decision in the beginning had not gone that direction. That was 2001 and this is 2009 and the steel block deal is needed at this time for a large group of race people that still need somewhere to be involved in the sport they love racers, fans, track promoters alike. Example, Loyd you ran a bomber because it was to expensive to have a late model, but you still had fun racing. This is the same deal with Sprint Cars, but hopefully I can help make a situation where it will work for everyone interested.

John,

You are absolutely right on both points. Time will tell. If the race at Kamp Motor Speedway and the phone calls/emails I have been receiving is any indication of the direction this deal is heading, Sam is on the right track. We are looking at ways to improve and inhance the particiapation level. Sixteen cars is a full field with the SCORA program. Saturday night was our first full field and the racing was stellar.

And yes, Sam Stockon did start MSCS as a traveling steel block series. There were several aluminum block drivers who could not afford to travel the USAC circuit, but were tired of racing at the same track week in and week out against the same drivers. They wanted to inhance their skill level and attack the challenge of racing at different tracks against different drivers. To accommodate that, MSCS, under Sam Stockon, opened two divisions for a while, one steel block and one open division. The purse structure was higher for the open division and had greater participation than the steel block only series. There were several tracks that could not afford to run the open division, but could afford the steel block only program. The challenges of trying to run two different series at the same time became daunting to say the least. With the open division getting great car counts and being able to sustain itself, the decision was made to eliminate the steel block only division.

The reason I know this John, I was also the Race Director for MSCS during that time up until, due to Sam's health, he sold it to Tommy Helfrich of Tri-State Speedway.

Sam has always and still does, believe a steel block sprint car series can be more affordable for the "working man" racer and give them a chance to race against cars similar to their own. The cost of racing has gotten out of hand for all levels of racing and even more so for many of those drivers who must pay for their racing out of their pocket. Sprint cars aren't the only classes experiencing this. A lot of good drivers have had to park their rides or sell them.

Keep in mind, SCORA is in it's first season. We have had four races so far with four different winners and the racing, even with the light car counts, has been very good. That is what this deal is all about.

Look at the advances the Crate Late Models have made. Each week it's a little better. Same with SCORA. And it's been fun, not to mention the already stated quality of racing. Not a red flag all weekend and what, maybe 3 yellows?
Putnamville had 15 cars to our 16.......no one is suggesting that they wont make it.

I think the series is a good idea, and I wish it the best of luck. I hope to catch a race soon. If a local track or two had these cars on their weekly card, or semi-regularly, then I think car counts for SCORA would go up.
