I'll be there for the first time. I have read so many good things about it on here I couldn't stay away any longer.

Headed that way soon. This place is becoming the place to be, on Saturday nights.

Why? What are the major reasons that a driver/owner/fan would go to VCS instead of The Burg?

In your world maybe anybody that says something good about another track that races on Saturday nights, is bashing the one in your back yard. But not in mine. I make the 350 mile round trip to the Burg many times each year for special events and big races. I just think that VCS has managed to consistently put together one of the best weekly shows around. Good car counts, with their fair share of heavy hitters and a well run program. Step off the porch and give it a try sometime.

I don't think that anyone is trashing the track in my back yard. I am simply trying to put a finger on WHY the "heavy hitters" and "good car counts" are going to VCS in lieu of The Burg? I am very curious as to why.

I think the city of Lawrenceburg has spent an unbelievable amount of money here with the goal of creating the best dirt track in the midwest if not the country. A lofty goal if I say so myself. In a time and era when dirt tracks are closing left and right I would think that racers and fans might appreciate this effort. In my opinion the sprint car counts have left something to be desired this year. Obviously, part of the reason is VCS. The Burg is paying more than VCS now. I talked to an owner last week during the KISS race at the Burg and asked why they were there that night and not at VCS as usual. They stated that they had finished XXX the week before and ONLY got XXX dollars. What they got was the exact amount that they get at VCS for that finish. They came to The Burg that night because KISS was paying a little more. There are three $10,000 to win races at the Burg this year, drivers will come for that and then go elsewhere for a regular show. Shouldn't owners and drivers TRY a little harder to TRY AND SUPPORT THE PROMOTORS THAT ARE TRYING TO SUPPORT THEM with a higher payout or do you shun that promotor during the majority of his weekly shows cause another track is 10 miles closer or whatever the reasons are?

That was the point of my first post . . . What are the reasons? Knowing the reasons can only promote change, which can only serve to improve the environment for racers and fans. The city and promotor at Lawrenceburg have made a HUGE commitment to the track here. I only wished to start some dialogue as to why so many are making the choice to go to VCS. It just seems that some owners and drivers are avoiding The Burg . . . as an example the KISS race in Bloomington had 49 cars last night and I think the KISS race last week at The Burg had 29 cars.

Please indulge me.

Oh, and by the way . . . in the last year I have stepped off the porch a few times. Gas City, Twin Cities, Florence, Eldora and Manzy. I am stepping off the porch in June as well to go to Richmond for the USAC race.

My post wasn't about defending anyone or tearing anyone down, just wondered what peoples reasons are.

I stayed out of the L'burg argument about Mods and Mini's and TQ's. But, since I am ranting I will tell you that I HATE watching mini's and TQ's, nothing against those racers or crews, just don't want to see them race on a track that I don't believe suits them very well. JMHO though.

Scott, I think there are several reasons why VCS is getting good car counts and for the most part I dont think it is at the expense of the car count at the 'burg. I think just under half of the cars VCS gets are ones that you dont see at other Indiana tracks, Mike Hess is a good example, and some are coming from Putnamville as evidenced by the 14 cars that showed there last week. Secondly the new 'burg is an expensive place to run. I love the place but for a low buck guy it means more engine expense, some of those guys dont get an engine refresh all year, not if you are going to run there though. Also if you take a tumble, you are going a lot faster and have a wall to contend with that wasnt there before, its gonna cost more after you come to a stop. I guess what I am saying is that I think some of the guys that used to run there every week just havent come back this year because they cant afford to and last the whole year. I am not trying to put the track down at all and I certianly dont want to risk my membership in that rowdy Section A bunch. I love going there but it just seems to be suited more to a special events kind of deal than weekly. Dont worry though, I heard it right from Dave's mouth last night in the parking lot at Bloomington that they are committed to running a weekly show for at least 2 more years.
