He was one of the greatest to ever run a sprint car. I remember one night at terre haute where he finished second with a right front shock broken off of the car. He had a God given talent that I was lucky enough to witness. I miss my friend. I miss hanging out with him, driving across country to races with him and basically just goofin off with him. R.I.P. my friend.

I was at Winchester that fateful night. I didn't want to go to any more races that weekend. But Robbie would have kicked my butt if he knew I was not going because of his death. I went to those races to honor my friend. I miss you Robbie.

My first and last pavement car was the J&J that Robbie won the 91 championship with then borrowed back from Captain Brad for a slide around IRP on his lid. Got it from Bill Rose. Ron Stanley helped me quite a bit with setup advice cause I didn't know squat about pavement.

Robbie passed my car for the final transfer spot into that feature on the last lap of the B. I always wished we could have beat him for that spot.

A few years ago I was working at a drive in estimating center and saw a Robbie Stanley "No Regrets" sticker on a Cadillac. I asked the man about it and he was a relative. The sticker was in bad shape so I made some more and took them to where the man worked. He has a lifetime supply. I also made about a hundred of them and gave them to Lauren Besecker when she was working with Lawrenceburg. They were supposed to get passed out at the Robbie Stanley Memorial, but it rained out. Don't know if they are still out there somewhere or not.

I sure do miss him.

A long night I wish I could forget. The hardest part was going back up there for a NAMARS race a couple of days later. I stopped 3 times on the way there. Sucked it up and went racing, realizing if I had turned around, I would've never gone back to Winchester. I love that place, I hate that place.

Nice thread, Robby was a real stand on the gas race car driver.

RIP

It doesn't seem like that long ago. I missed that race due to a late work assignment. I was really mad that I had to miss a sprint race at Winchester. I remember talking to Checker'd Past the next day and he told me the news. It was heartbreaking to hear but I was glad that I missed seeing it in person. I have seen a number of drivers lose their life in racing accidents. I certainly don't need to see anymore. RIP Robbie.

Mike

Be nice to people on the way up. You might need them on the way down. Jimmy Durante

This a very late post. Robby Stanley was one of the best to climb into a Sprint. I was at Winchester
that day. Hard to believe it's been 15 years. I really hope the Stanley family is doing well these days.
Best Regards,
John
