Pretty poor effort early in the night at Gas City was almost completely forgotten by the end because of the outstanding surface for the feature! My only hope is that my next trip to Gas City offers those kind of conditions for the entire night, not just the semi and feature.

I normally make 5 or 6 shows a year hoover and the track is black top to bottom atleast half the time.That doesn't mean the racing is bad.Just pointing out that Bloomington isn't perfect every night and if Mike doesn't have enuff water on the track from the start it's going to be black.

Don when the surface sucks at Gas City I say that(for the heats it did)If you don't have an extra hour and 15 minutes for track prep I can't help ya, but you have to admit the racing was better after.

I really don't think that was the case. There was water in all the fields heading over, but the weather was clear in the days leading up to the show and the forecast for dry weather was dead on. I think they just stepped on it and sealed whatever mositure was there too deep.....

.....but Kirk's right, by the end of the night it didn't really matter.

I think Bloomington is a great race track, a great facility and I definitely appreciate the history of the place. But come on, it has routinely gotten blacker than the ace of spades for as long as I've been around. I'm not sure I ever remember it staying tacky the whole night like Lawrenceburg did on Saturday or what we see every week up here in Howard County. Not a jab at Mike Miles either, I think it more than likely has a lot to do with the red clay.

An hour and 15 minutes that equals about 4 hotdogs for us Rubes...:eek:

Can I ask why it is a problem if the track gets a little slick. As a fan all I ask for is good side by side racing. For me personally it is not about the speed it is the closeness and wheel to wheel. When a track is able to produce guys coming from mid pack to the front. Friday at Bloomington it was slick with a cushion and a bottom. That is what I feel all we can ask for. Brady Short started 10Th and went on to win the race. Beauchamp started 20Th and came to 6Th. Make Bloomington tacky and Brady may have got to 6Th and Beauchamp 12Th. Most tracks not all tracks when they are tacky fast are one groove. Yes they provide speed and crashes but a lot of pole winners. Now I agree when the track gets so slick that it becomes follow the leader that is a freight train race as well. This is just my opinion as a fan when I am watching. Some of the best race's I have watched were slick with a bottom and top.

i to do not mind black slick.. bloomington friday night was racy from top to bottom all night because too much water was not applied..... also when a track is to wet it is usally very rough as i have seen many times at gas city...ill take the smooth slick anytime .... bloomington was great friday night and the burg was nice also... just would like to see it a little smoother..

Bloomington is definitely a track that needs to get a little slick to be racy. I've seen some nights where it stayed tacky all night, but the races just weren't that good! As long as Bloomington has a good cushion all the way around and a little somethin' on the bottom, it will be a good show. Last year's Sprintweek race was about perfect when it comes to conditions for the red clay.

Folks, Please be nice....Gas City, Bloomington, and all the rest work very hard on thier track. Its dirt and it can go either way all the time. The weather plays a HUGE roll in prepping a track, everything from humidity to clouds. Its a tricky call when to water, how much to water, when to grade, when to sheepsfoot....on and on.
Equipment is another valuable tool.....you gotta have water trucks, sheepsfoot, and tractors and much more. Keeping this equipment running and working is a chore sometimes. We at Lawrenceburg spent alot of money on new equipment this spring, we bought a 4,000 gallon water truck, a vibratory sheeps foot and built a cool drag. Last week was a hell week for all the equipment, i played water pump swap 3 times, one pump locked up, and cost us time and energy. In closing i want to say take it easy on Gas City, i know they work very hard on the track and if it was'nt perfect it was'nt because of effort. Yes this weekend our track was good, but it could go the other way very easily. I applaud our track crew for doing such a great job and working on it everyday and night. I can't speak for weekly conditions but the last two times I was there it was a dry slick. Something I only seen once prior on a D.O Fest DAY RACE about ten years ago. Kinda took away my desire to return, However I will

I seen three shows in 07 and two in 08 at Gas City. The first two in 07 were dust bowls so much so I didn't see Hammerhead flip down the front straight in front of me. The third after new clay was added was PERFECT as were the TWO 08 Races.

Im told the track was fine for feature. Done at 1130.
