I just heard that indirectly from you a minute ago. My bad
I was told last night, that they had an electrical problem on the frontstretch. that is why they couldn't be used last night. Some of us were laughing last night. All the people who complained about no carry in at the gate, look at all the improvements that have been made. I will take that over being able to carry in food or drink. Any day.
I’ll only ask because I’m confused. The improvements made were paid for because you cannot bring in any food or beverage?? I’m confused because of tracks that I go to in other places let you carry in and make improvements. Kokomo is my favorite track in Indiana and top 3 across the country, but I find it hard to believe that rationale. There is more to it than that. I wish you would have just said the place keeps improving thanks to the OConners and left it at that.
Try going to any same level baseball, hockey, basketball, etc. game (that you have to pay to get in); and let us know about the carry-in food policy. If your choice is between buying tickets and buying food, eat before/after you go to the race (that food is certainly gona cost you $ tho too...).
What does a brat or burger cost there? $4-$6? I'm one of the cheapest guys in the world (never had a lot of $, but I survived my 19year year racing "career" debt free and also paid my house off in less than 20 years, at 43yrs old) but I would never expect these venues to let me carry stuff in. Go out to the car if you need to...
Kokomo has not allowed carry in food or drinks for a very long time. As far as I know, The O'Connor Family has never allowed carry in and IF they did, it was when they first bought the property. There has been no carry in for at least the past 9 years that I know of. No carry in, had absolutely 0 to do with the Frontstretch being closed. The last time I remember carry in was when my late father worked the Backstretch gate in the late 80s and 90s checking coolers.
Now with the low attendance numbers...the Backstretch was not even close to being full. Sunday was a nicer weather day, and it still wasn't remotely close to being full. Hardly no lines all night at the concessions. Obviously the Frontstretch was empty.
With that said I ask the question of why? Yes, this is an opinionated question but I'm curious on people's thoughts. Was it bc lack of fan support for Midget racing? I mean I did see several people leave after the "Kokomo Sprint Cars" Feature was over. Was it bc people can't accept change or adjust and sit on the Backstretch for 2 races bc they always sit on the Frontstretch? Was it bc of Flo that is definitely driving people out of the stands at many tracks not just Kokomo, and to stay at home? I mean I know a person who lives within 5 miles of the track and he was at home watching it on Flo, grilling out at home, drinking their beer at home. We generally have a group of 20-25 people and only 7 of us attended the race, the rest was at home watching it on Flo. Was it the construction and upgrades still being worked on in which The O'Connor Family didn't have to do but they are trying to make the track an even nicer facility and safer then what it already was. Was it the weather even though I seen many people wearing shorts. Was it bc Saturday was cold and windy and Sunday was a work night even though the last checkered flew by 945p?
Just thought it was extremely odd for a weekend doubleheader USAC show of USAC Midgets and Kokomo Sprint Cars as the only support class, both nights ending by 945p, and yet the stands were very very open.
