ha! wow! classic from two eras! a 1955 Kurtis body humping a 1977 Foyt Coyote..
These poor guys, trying to rehash this car, have two big problems......
First, they are stuck with nascar's original stupid concept of trying to build open wheel cars without having open wheels.
Second, they are stuck trying to salvage the original nascar chassis, by attempting to come up with some sort of new cheap, retrofit bodywork kit.
Frankly, now that nascar is gone, they need to start over with a new proper open wheel chassis or, if they really don't want open wheels, just bring back the USAC stock car division.
Start here V

Yes, the car looks a bit different...but in my mind, so what?!
I'm so disappointed that the IRL stopped being a next level series for our USAC guys, I say bring it on.
8 or 9 miles and mile and half track, two or three road courses...with the best American short track talent, and I'm all in.
Here's my biggest deal with the Gold Crown series - they have to make the races long enough to warrant a 3-5 hour drive. I'm not driving five hours to the Kentucky lap for a race that last less than an hour.

Miledirt,
From what Kentucky says , you don't have to worry about going there again. As for longer races, then you'd have pitstops and the like. I don't think USAC wants to go that far yet.
Sad part is that USAC wants to dump the dirt off of champ car races. The last time they tried that it started the path to rent a ride and cart. Just wait until you have a bunch of names you can't pronounce racing in these cars. I say leave the dirt in , make the drivers run for a REAL title. You will find out real quick who the racers are.
Emblem in the grill is nice touch, I just hope it is removable.

So, what road courses would these run on? Putnam Park, IRP's club course, Mid-Ohio, support for the moto gp at Indy? I would be very interested to see some of those races! Though the 2-speed tranny may not be the best for it....
Have they tested this on ovals yet? Could the road course testing be a first step before running on an oval?
As much as we want there to be a road to Indy from USAC, it just isnt happening because they are such different formulas. Now that we have road racing back in IndyCar, that road to Indy is now officially closed (more closed).
Would we see these cars at Eldora? A 4-crown with 4 usac divisions... hmmmm

As a former critic of the new cars and a traditional car owner, I believe the Gold Crown is a good concept. The revamped car looks way more like a race car and much less like NASCAR’s COT idea.
Just for the record lets get the timeline spelled out for some of the fans reading this board that may not be "in the know" of how things shook out.
1. NASCAR lobbied (and bankrolled) the new silver crown COT and an unnamed USAC official assisted in implementing it. (Although I believe he retired before the car ever hit the track.
2. USAC "screwed" the dirt and traditional car owners by parking the pavement cars among much outcry and protest of the fans.
3. The PRA was formed and gave some of the traditional owners a place to run the cars for 2 years.
4. USAC management changes and it is announced the traditional cars will return.
5. USAC revamps the revamped SC series thus screwing the new silver crown owners. Many fans are pleased but many are upset with the new car owners being wronged just as the old car owners were before.
6. USAC and a private company revamp the new style SC cars and announce a roll out for 2010. The car is tested and appears to be compatible on both road courses and ovals, giving it a broader opportunity to race in front at large venues with other series i.e. IRL, NASCAR as a support series; or even be the “headliner” with the Grand Am series or another USAC series as support class.
I applaud the move as a car owner. This should give everyone a place to race and every fan a place to watch in 2010.

No way to turn a silvercrown car into a goldcrown a goldcrown car is longer wider and the fuel cell sits on top and in front of the rear axel not behind the rear axle like the silvercrown this was done for safety in the event of a hard rear impact.
