A year or two ago I was standing in the pits at East Bay during the Winternationals talking to a representative of one of the racing-related web sites when an old pickup truck drove by pulling an open hauler with a sprint car. He looked at me in surprise and asked if someone was going to race the car. I told him yes. He then asked who the driver was. I told him that the pickup driver was also the sprint car driver. A long period of silence followed. I assured him I wasn't pulling his leg. Of course, it was Johnny. Later, the same guy spoke with Johnny. Among other things, he asked him if he was going to go over to Volusia. Johnny's said he hadn't decided yet, Volusia was next week. He added that, at his age, he didn't even buy green bananas.

Johnny is a great guy. Thanks to Keith for starting this thread.

I agree as well. Also, keeping with my thoughts of Paragon... Mike Johnson is one of the most under rated drivers of his time. He raced and beat the best throughout his career and yet he is still not in the Hall of Fame. Not only was he a great shoe, but also a great flagman and not to mention he and his wife Sue owned Paragon Speedway and I believe were the ones who sold it to Keith.

Keith, thanks for bring this to everyone's attention and also for keeping the Johnson Memorial race on your schedule.
