Gregg I am so sorry for you loss. My wife and I are dog people, and we have 3 dogs, one of which has had diabetes for a a little over a year now. She has many of the problems you told about, and I know her body is giving out. I can not even think of the day we will have to make the choice you did, but I know the day is coming. Be strong and remember the great days you had together.

Awe Greg, I'm sorry about your loss. I feel your pain. I just lost my sweet baby girl last week :crying: It was freak accident and I have had a hard time with it. Sassy was like your Annie, she never, ever left my side. She was so loyal to me and I hope I have that again one day. I hope you do also. The rainbow bridge is an excellent poem! A funeral home here in town offers an excellent cremation service and I am so glad we did that. Thanks for sharing this. RIP Annie

There is another book that is really good too - Marley & Me, of which the movie is coming out on Christmas Day. The Art of Racin in the Rain is also a very good book as you mentioned.

to most of us "pets," and i put quotes around this word because it is a word that catagorizes these beings as something less than human, but pets are truley a part of our family. loosing a pet can be as devastating for some as loosing a "real" member of the family. im sorry for your loss, and i hope that all will be well for you.

Annie's yard has a patch in the flower bed where the Iris's grow in the spring. She usually would lay right in the middle of them, knocking several of the blooms out of kilter. I can't think of any place better to spread her ashes.
Racing and pets. It is no wonder I get along with so many people in IOW.com.
Maggie has moved to the head of the couch and is loving it. I won't undersell her either. She is a very sweet and loving dog too.
I thank each and every one of you for your thoughts.

Your story brought tears. Seems racing people are good dog people. By the way my mother had a kennel for years and worked closely with a local vet. She said that turkey was not good for doggies. Remember Jim Hurtibise's dog? It was pit side with him sometimes.
