Yes, you're right, that's probably why that with 3 divisions a night, at MtLawn, they only have a TOTAL of maybe 30, if they're lucky. Bob

When I first visited the Speedrome for Bob Lowe Night after his death in 1990, I was required to purchase a Speedrome membership and a pit pass -- as a reporter for a daily newspaper coverning the races from Bob's hometown paper. That was under different ownership.

That system was not used when Joe Mershon leased the track for NAMARS. When the Cohens took over the midget program about four years ago, they implemented the membership with its racing program that they charged for their other divisions.

It is my understanding that Don Kenyon and the Cohens were within a few thousand dollars of reaching an agreement. Kenyon had a certain amount of money through sponsorships but that was short of the amount the Cohens felt was needed to show a profit on the midget program, or at least break even. A compromise could not be reached so Don took the show on the road.

Bigmojo has his facts right from all accounts i've heard. Don Kenyon did his best at trying to reach a deal and the owner simply wanted too much money. It's not my place to disclose the dollar amount but suffice it say that the owner really didnt want the midgets there unless he was making money before the first car hit the pit gate. The biggest battle midget face in going back to the speedrome is that a couple years ago when did have them the car counts were never predictable. Some nights there would be 26 midgets and others there would be 8. I for one would put together a car just for that series if it would come back, we had a blast beating around that place. However, he can run stock cars every wekend and fill the stands, pits, and beer lines all night long. Tons of extra laps close to home and usually back at the shop by 930 every night, you can count us in.

I didnt know all that about the Speedrome that A.J. was talking about. Its 4 shure not that nice to have to pay extra. But i was just thinkin it would be a perfect size and pretty fast track for TQs. I have talked to a few people about it now and its not looking like unless a major change has comes along, that we probley wont be back anytime soon. Its a shame cause I know we would put on one hell of a show for the fans. O well! I just love racing, doesnt matter there or not!

I have some great memories of the Thursday night thunder shows frome the Speedrome on the tube. I still have the cassette tapes. When I finaly made it out there in the late 90's you could virtually see about 50 people tops in the stands. A real shame. But than again during the same time the crowds at 16th st speedway were short also. Hard for this New yorker to believe that two great midget facilitys lacked so much intrest:confused:. Things seem to recycle themselves in racing so who knows it could happen again.:thumb

thursday was a very bad night for racing. Working night keeps alot away. if only they would have done it on friday or SUNDAY! 16th street was doomed from the get go. Couldn't run the big cars there. track has to have a filler class or 2. Just a midget show is not that apealing. I remember when they had the summer heat series, we went up and watched 2 shows. 40 midgets per show. Bad thing was there was no other classes. to much down time.

Yea, That was my point. I was there Indy week and there was a pile of cars. Not a huge crowd but I got to see some Top drivers and some great racing....Also, it seems as though thursdays are a tough go all over. But it was some great action in my livingroom! :thumb
