Does it make me old because I remember the days of no women in the pits? Oh, and no kids, either. Hell, half the teams would be driverless with that one. . .

Not to be a smartass or anything, but that would be SEXIST, not racist to keep a woman out of the pits.

Actually, Back in the early 80s, I had a kid driving a midget for me at the speedrome and the first thing I told him was that I didn't know if he had a mommy or daddy, I didn't know if he had a wife or girlfriend and I never wanted to find out. Family interference or distraction between a driver and chief mechanic at the race track is not a good situation......Working for a family owned team, where one of the children is the driver, is also a bad situation for a non family mechanic.

Growing up at the races, I had a word that described owners who carried themselves in a fashion similar to what you describe here. That word was "********."

Family is a huge part of racing.

I can see some of the kids that are out there now have a problem with their 1/4 midget dads in the back ground trying to make there kid the next Jeff Gordon. But there are exceptions. Take my parents for example my dad who has more knowledge about sprint car racing in his pinkie finger than alot of car owners have in there whole bodies. And my mom who busts her ass every weekend changing gears, washing the car, setting the rollbar and videos every lap so i can watch the race to see what i could have done better. And my soon to be wife who keeps and eye on my helment, gets lineups, and gives me support when i am feeling Sh*tty. They all do something that takes pressure off of me. So the only thing i have to think about is the race track and the car. So when i get the put that car into victory lane they are expected to be there. Why? Because they earned it and want them to be there. If some car owner told me that my family couldnt be a part of my racing. I would quit that ride faster than you could say "SUPERDUKE". The last two years my crew has pretty much been two women. (Girlfriend and Mom) And with 16 wins 4 Championships. That should be enough to earn any mans respect.
