May as well show our age by posting our first Indy 500. Mine was 1951 and that early in the year I was 12 years old. I remember it well because Mauri Rose flipped into a drainage ditch right in front of us. I believe it was Mauri's last 500. Didn't go any more until I was able to go without my parents. Went to several more until the mid-60s when the little green rear engine car and it's successors took over. No disrespect to the current cars, but just not my cup of tea. What could be more beautiful and sound better than a roadster with a Novi or an Offenhauser?
If you never heard the Novi you missed a really special moment at Indy. You can close your eyes and you knew where on the track that car was. My first Indy 500 was 1959 when Rodger Ward won. This year will be by 60th consecutive Indy 500. Last year I took my great-grandson to the first day of qualifications and he set there in awe. The month of May has always been special for everyone in our family.

Wow 55 years without a miss? That’s impressive. That makes your first race 1964, to think of how different racing, and hell everything, was in 1964 is quite a trip! Hope you make it many more.
