The pit pass prices are listed on the attached flyer.....

http://www.chilibowl.com/2009midgetflyer1.pdf

A multi-day pass will set you back $210; if pit passes are purchased daily, then you'll spend $240.

And you MUST purchase your fuel at the Expo Center, according to the flyer....or face a DQ....

Pre-entry $150 until 12/15/08; $200 after that date....So while Lanny and Emmitt spend a few bucks to promote the event, it's pretty clear that the event is a moneymaker for them. Do a little math, estimate 200 entries, 6000 seats sold at an average of $200 for four/five nights. 2000 pit passes at $210...And the Chili Bowl press release says that 10,000 fans attend the final, so I'm guessing that most folks buy four or five night sating to guarantee their seat for Saturday

I get $1.655 million at the gate before any purse is paid, using ny 6000 attendee estimate. But its probably more since the Bowl uses 10000 attendees in their PR.

Now, It takes a ton of work to get the Expo Center ready for the Chili Bowl and the Shoutout the weekend before the Bowl. But as Don Moore has pointed out in the past, it seems to me that the purse does not come close to what it should be for the competitors...

But you cannot even find the posted purse on their website!

$210 is a lot of money. If you look at it (from having a ticket and buying a PP on top of the ticket), a pit pass is only $10-15 more a day if you have ticket. You pretty much pay at least $10 more for a pit pass no matter where you go. Now whether the tickets themselves are over priced, that's a different arguement.

I have also heard the Shootout pays all the bills and the Bowl is all profit.

That was cash only because some sort of power outage put the card machines out of commission. I was up there trying to sell a couple tickets, so I saw the whole problem...

That is a big sum, but it's always been well worth it to me. Five nights of racing means that a pit pass averages $42. 40 dollars for the four qualifying nights (70ish cars) and 50 for the final night doesn't really sound that horrible. I won't argue that they don't make a lot of money, because they do get every last cent out of everyone who goes, but I have NEVER felt like I didn't get my money's worth out there. They provide a great show, with a TON of racing, in a short time span....and they get the money for being the ones to make it work!
