Kody certainly is one of the best ever in big car's and certainly on pavement sprint cars. I listened to the jackslash podcast he did about a year ago and became more of a fan because he seems like a wonderful person. Not to diminish his run in the crown cars, I would like to submit a fact that I think is lost in this discussion. How about Hampshire and that 63 team. The great Jack Hewitt won most if not all of his 23 silver crown races driving for Bob, and Kody is doing the same. I don't want to take away from either driver's success but I'd say their getting quite a car to run!
I’m glad someone posted this. I was going to, but I knew if I did then someone would disagree in a rude manner. And I was right. Anywho, I found myself wondering why hasn’t he or when will he get a shot at the next level? Especially after the week/weekend that he had. Can’t wait to see where his talent takes him. And not only does he have the talent, he has the driver IQ as well. Just like Larson and Bell. Speaking of which, I watched 600 miles of racing last night that I will never get back. The only thing worth seeing was Larson’s spin and save. And had that not happened, I think he could’ve made a run on the infamous M&M’s car. (To put it nicely)
There are 3 of these same threads within the last year. One from 11 months ago with the exact same title by the exact same person. It just seems a bit over the top. I mean he has something going in the crown cars and is a pavement specialist. As an all around racer who can jump in any car and win he is just not that guy. Sure he is a nice guy has a nice family is photogenic and checks all the boxes but that just doesn't translate into "the best" for me.

Who would you say is more versatile? He has won in sprints, midgets silver crown cars on dirt and pavement. Not sure if he has ever won on dirt with a wing, but I know he has run them.

If we're just talking non wing sprints, midgets, and silver crown cars I'd say he has some competition for the title of most versatile from Windom, Courtney, Grant, and Bacon. Windom has won two of the three titles in USAC with some success in midgets. Grant and Courtney have both been extremely strong in midgets and sprints the past couple years, and both have found victory lane on occasion in silver crown. Bacon seems to be top 5 or 10 in every race he's in no matter the car. If we're throwing wings in the conversation, I'd definitely give the nod to Bacon as he's been finding more and more success with the all stars and WoO. Let's not forget since the four crown added the all stars Bacon has ran top 5 in all four divisions both years.
It's a fun conversation to have. We're lucky to witness such versatile drivers.
Kody Swanson or Bobby Santos deserve the next big break. They are pavement specialists and have the wins to back it up. Big time racing is done on pavement yet the ones who have been getting the chance lately have all been what I consider dirt specialists that may have also run pavement and even won, but without the consistency of Swanson or Santos.
Some of Hewitt's Champ Car Wins came while driving for 6R Racing and Don Murphy. There were probably others, but the majority was driving for Hamp, for sure.
