I am really lucky where I live that a lot of good racing is within 2 hours of my house. I have been at my job for 33 years, so I have a good amount of vacation time. I also have 4 grandkids in Georgia, and that plays into my priorities. I have been to 247 tracks and as I have gotten older have found I like what I have close by the best. My big ones every year are The week of the Indy 500, IN Midgetweek, IN Sprintweek, The Smackdown. I usually work between 25 and 30 Saturdays a year, so Saturdays can be tough for me to go.

Seems like at least most of us have our limitations as to how we schedule racing year. Being a good year for me it allowed me to meet more race fans as I had a little more time available and that translated to more time at the track. That allowed me the chance to meet more people, like iow'er oppweld, and hear stories from all the great places he, and others have been to, places I've always read about but never been. That's got me inspired to get to some of the pinnacles of the sport we love and hoping to get to at least a couple this year. Like most of you it's a little far out for me to plan it all yet, but here's wishing all of you good year next year as well. Thanks for your thoughts on the subject. And even if I can't make a race, I'll be wishing I was there, and if I feel the need to toss in my 2 cents I will cause that's what fans do

I live in Colorado, long drive to any good racing, but trek cross country every year to spend summers in Connecticut with 94 yr. old Mom (still lives alone!) I try to catch races on my way across USA & back. This past summer I caught 2 Indiana Midget week races driving East, drive 4-5 hrs. to Pennsylvania during the summer for selected winged events, & went to 4 Crown, as well as an NSL race in Missouri & a terrific POWRi race in Illinois on my way back west. Actually I get to East Coast every year in time for Eastern Storm, caught first race at Grandview one year but that keeps getting rained out, & I feel bad about leaving poor old Mom alone for the rest of that week after I just arrived. I always try to see new tracks & big events when I can. New tracks this past summer for me were Lincoln Park & Bloomington, Indiana, Lebanon Valley in Upstate NY (pretty drive up Rt.8 from Ct.!), Eldora in Ohio, Belleville in Illinois & Farmington, Missouri. In the winter I try to take breaks at warm weather tracks, Like Perris, California & Cocopah, Arizona.
The ones I still want to catch are Indiana Sprint Week & Chili Bowl (tough tickets!) |
