Having made the drive to KLMS many times over the years for big shows, all I can say is wow what a shame. Truly one of the nicer facilities I've been to for a dirt track. Perhaps they missed on the formula over a bit over the years, but a very nice place. Was definitely on my schedule for October 17. Hopefully Paducah track can regain some strength and have some open wheel shows occasionally

From bad luck for one, to maybe good luck to another, maybe there is some safety fencing there, that TCRP can use at their facility, possible I suppose, hate to see an old established track bite the dust, on an emanate domain issue, that really sucks! Bob

Sad to hear of the demise of Kentucky Lake Speedway. Was seriously considering traveling down for the USAC race and visiting KLS for the second time ever. From what we remember it was a nice facility and a nice track surface with one of the most beautiful sunsets we have ever seen on the evening that we were there. Really dislike the concept of eminent domain and the lives it can disrupt without due process. Very sad indeed.

Coming from NE Ohio, was planning on hitting Lawrenceburg on 10/16 for World of Outlaws and then on 10/17 either going to KY Lake for USAC sprints or Plymouth, IN for WoO. Both of my 10/17 options have already been cancelled... Anyone have any suggestions for any big shows in the region or on the wayISH back to Ohio?

Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway was a beautifully built facility that has never been a success as for as I know. It would open for a while but then close for a while off and on for 20-25 years. Big late model races would be scheduled and then cancelled. I saw the WoO Sprints there twice years ago. Just seems strange that somebody would build that nice of a property and then have no knowledge and/or not enough money to keep it open. Maybe somebody knows for sure but I bet that track was closed almost as much as it was open over it's history.

We moved down here within a few miles of KLMS in 2009, but had been in the area off and on since 2006. I can't speak to before then, but I know since 2006 KLMS has been an orphaned stepchild. A homeowner had built a new home about 1/4 mile from the speedway AFTER the speedway was already in existence, filed suit and received a favorable ruling which limited the number of nights the speedway could run and how late. In about 2009 the speedway was sold to a family from the Chicago area, and the daughter took over operation of the speedway. She had NO experience running any racing operation. Over the next 4 years the track ran 5 events, none the last two years she/they owned it. KLMS was sold at auction in late 2013 to the current owners, who put a great deal of money and effort in an attempt to make it successful.

The current owners had applied the last two years for permission to run past their curfew if weather interfered on "high payout" shows (request was denied by the county board) and had also requested a variance to run on Sunday evenings if a major show was rained out (also denied). KLMS has been chastised over the last two years for being quick to cancel if we got a shower on race day down here, but in fairness, they faced such a restrictive curfew and penalties, if there was a chance they couldn't start on time they couldn't take the chance.

USAC had scheduled a race down here for Oct. 17 and I know ASCS and WoO were considering scheduling races down here in 2016. It sucks that it ends this way!

That is what I would say is thinking out loud. Lol. Go Tommy and tss to get it done before they head out west. If it could be done it would be great for the fans and the sport that we all love. Thanks
