First, let me thank you all for the kind words. I didn’t mean to make this a testimony to my virtues. All though it was very helpful to my ego!

Kinser11, I’m sorry about your friend and I hope your health improves. I hope your friend didn’t think that the money wasn’t appreciated. It just that I didn’t feel that we put our best effort in that year (2013) and I didn’t feel we deserved it. But the money from him (and the others that helped this year) was greatly appreciated.

It was you that spoke up for me when a member on this site was trashing me after this year’s Little 500. And I thank you. I tend to be a bit sensitive to such things. But I know better than to respond to the person throwing mud. It just leads to more mud.

Trecraft, I’ve been called a lot worse things than “The Nance Man.” For those of you that don’t know, I have everything from my dad’s 1968 Nance sprint car (with the bolt on cage) to my 1989 Nance I campaigned for several years. I have a total of 10 Nance chassis’ as well as a plethora of parts. Some of them quite rare.

The purpose of the thread was to hopefully get some fans to go outside their comfort zone and see something besides what they are used to. I travel quite a bit for my job and some of the tracks I’ve been to have been because I was in the area for work. And I always look forward to going to a new track and I try to get to a new track every year. This year, my new track is going to be Syracuse for the Silver Crown race in a couple of weeks.

I believe it was last year where I read that a member on this site went to the Terre Haute Silver Crown race and changed his mind at the gate and went to a movie when he heard there was only 10-12 cars. While I understand he didn’t want to spend his hard earned money for the low car count, I would belly crawl through a mile of broken glass just to see a silver crown car hot lap. I would do it naked if I got to drive it!

Over the years, I’ve heard people say, “I wouldn’t cross the street to see that.” And while I understand, watching a 300 lap street stock race may not be everyone’s cup of tea, don’t just set on your couch and complain about what you don’t like, go out and see what you do like. And every now and then, go see something you haven’t seen before. You might surprise yourself.

I like winged & traditional, but pavement is a turn off for me. In fact, pavement killed my interest in racing for about 40years. Got started as a teen in Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, early 60s, used to go to jalopy/modified dirt track races at Eastside Speedway In Waynesboro, Va. Dirt track, 100% inversion based on season points. A guy named Smokey Stover won something like 22 out of 24 features in 1962, always starting from the back, & it was great. In 1966 we moved back up north. I went to 2 paved races in Danbury, Ct. & lost all interest. About 4 years ago, traveling from upstate NY to southern Pa., heard about sprint car races in Central Pa., went to one & now I'm hooked. Last summer I had the pleasure of going to Haubstadt & this year hit Kokomo Smackdown. Next stop: Trophy Cup in Tulare, Ca., full inversion for final, just like the old days!

You definitely won't regret it. Dirt tracks are my preference, but the Little 500 is not to be missed. I encouraged some of my dirt track friends to go this year, and now they're hooked too.
