So lets see Johnny, Why would anyone give a effort to qualify well if they knew it penalized them?
While I too prefer single car qualifying if qualifyings done as a fan. Its the same system Kokomo uses to lineup their heats. The cars you race against in the heats are the same cars you qualify against, so you at least got a sense of how close you are to a decent setup vs qualifying a half hour later on a track thats drastically different than the first couple qualifiers. It's a little bit fairer to the racers vs luck of the draw, Qualify good, Hold or gain position's in your heat and your starting up front. Pill draw, If you don't crack the top two in the heat cause you started eighth or tenth. Your SCREWED because you can never start better than seventh and probably a lot worse, If you finish fourth. you may start 16th. Secretly I loved the Qualify and than have the Wheel of Missfortune spun by the fast qualifyer. With a wheel with straight up, four, six or all options. They did this at Eldora USAC 50th a couple years ago. it was great!
