Back in the glory days of Ascot, they ran off-road races on the motorcycle TT track which ran up the frontstretch and around turns 1 & 2 of the half-mile through a gap in the wall around 2 & 1 of the 1/4 mile, over the TT jump then around 4 & 3 of the quarter, out a gate about halfway down the backstretch back out onto the half and through 3 & 4 to the finish. Brought out a lot of names; the Mears Gang, Bob Gordon (Robbie's dad), possibly the Johnson's (can't remember for sure) and a couple of no-name actors, Garner and McQueen. Pretty good show. Not Sprint Cars or Midgets, but Aggie ran a little something for everybody; Flat Track on Fridays, Sprinters Saturday nights, Super Mods or Figure 8's on Sunday (on the Tee-Vee for a lot of years), and Motocross, Offroad, TT bikes, Speedway and just about anything else you could think of during the week. It was racing. It was all good.

One thing to remember Eldora is a 17,000 seat facility that needs to be used, and needs to bring in new faces. I won't be able to attend, but I am sure there will be people there who have never been and may come back. Probably a lot of kids.

What's wrong with a track being multi faceted?

I watch it a lot on TV, looks like a blast to me, in what other motorsport can you do all the things you really want to do, and most of the time get away with it. I look for it to be a big draw of spectators and cars, I remember the first time I saw it on TV, I think all they had then was the "bugs", man, did it look like fun, expensive yes, but fun is usually associated with expense, I agree with ya Chris, can't sit idle, gotta be something goin on, or it becomes a shopping center, another one! Exactly, The race I saw was good, it pulled me in to watch the tv. It was fast, and they backitin real hard in the corners. The buggys are even better, imo.

I have watched this series the last 2 years up here in Michigan at Red Bud motocross track and although they were light on the pro series trucks, definitely worth watching. They race side by side beating and banging on each other and unlike short track racing they do not get penalized for it. I am a diehard circle tracker but watching these guys race made has made me open up to another form of dirt racing.

For the uninspired, these aren't your daily driver trucks pulling a load down the road, they are as much a race car, maybe more so, than they are anything, the only resembelence to a truck is the outline, everything else is pure race stuff, and from what I can tell, way more expensive than you normally see at any dirt track, be it Sprint car, Midget, or Modifried, I'd say at Eldora, it would be a big draw. IMHO, they would be the next thing to a Sprint car, in crowd pleasers. Bob
