I just wish that USAC and us racers would be smart enough to come up with a Size, Width, Compound, AND a 1 Tire per night rule. Allow any manufacture Goodyear, Hoosier, American Racer Ect... To make a tire within the rules and let the racer choose... would you allow the state you live in to make you use a certain street tire and make you purchase them just because they help pay to pave the roads? No... Let the product, the deals for the racer, and the companies marketing create some competition between them and it will only help US ALL!!! |

I'll use Lucas Oil and WoO LM's as an example where you basically have an open comp tire rule (yes, there are certain rules in place), but the open rules have tire budgets out of hand there. Multiple compounds of each tire brand for certain track conditions, etc all make for a much lighter wallet. It's unfortunate these companies can't think of the good of the racer. They all know what the profit margin needs to be and basically have a gentlemans agreement not to undercut each other (ie. Price Fixing). It's just the sad state of racing now. Doesn't seem like anyone is happy with the way anything is done by anyone due to the almighty dollar instead of the fundamentals of what makes this sport so dang addicting. ... sorry... got on a rant... I was told by a Hoosier rep that the HT2 was the same tire as the ASCS medium compound tire with a different stamp on it. It should durometer between the 12 and 15. Info from the ASCS guys might provide some insight into the tire, but wing vs non-wing works the tire a lot differently so I wouldn't hang my hat on their experience with the tire.
Back when we ran the 12 and 15 they didn't hold up well to heat cycling. The 15 took a long time to build heat and once it cooled off it was done. Lot's of problems sealing over under caution. You could grind the crust off it, but it never was as good. The 12's weren't much better. Now the question is do I get rid of my 17x5 and 17x6 wheels and go with 18's since the HT2 is wider? Going to have to mount some up to see where the stagger rolls out on the different wheels, then run the tire a few times to figure out what is best. I'm sure it will also have to be cut and siped different than the DT3 as well. Not complaining, this is actually the fun part for me... learning something new. |

I have durometered that ASCS med. Tire and if memory serves, it was only about 3 to 5 points softer than a new DT3. The HT2 would be softer than that. I am going to check my new one today and see how it comes out. To answer your question, yes you can run it on a 17" Wide wheel, it will just be a little taller and the tire will have a little more sidewall sticking over the edge. The only real gripe I have about the tire so far, is they made them a 105" instead of 104" like everyone has been used to. You just have to find those small chalk marks and hope they turn out.
