This tire should be a better tire than the dt3. The existing dt3 had a tendency to seal up or even blister after hot laps, qualifications, and heat race then put a new one on for the feature! The new tire should allow a team to use one tire all night in more cases than before with better tire performance the entire night.

DT-3 never was the tire......it sucked, until everyone figured out how to chemically treat it.

It was better 3 or 4 years ago, would love to see it outlaw too though! Run what cha brung! Do what BOSS is doing, make everyone run the same tire in their Heat and the A-Main. Give people a choice though!

Do like the outlaws one tire all night from hot laps to feature. I think that would at least help some. I don't like the wider tire though, makes hooking the big motors up a pretty big advantage. And adds more cost. Go 16" and give the little motors a chance! JMO

This is what is being said in USAC/CRA land
2. TIRES: USAC/CRA will adopt the Hoosier HT2 or HTW (105x18x15) as the replacement for the DT3 Right Rear Tire. This tire has also been adopted by the USAC National Sprint Series and is currently in use by the USAC Western Classic Racing Series. The Hoosier DT3 and F55 Hard Right Rear Tire will also remain legal with USAC/CRA in 2012. 360 Iron Block Teams can still use their series/track legal Hoosier Tires on all four corners. http://www.hoseheadforums.com/forum.cfm?ThreadID=62887 |

I'm sure that there's no official stat, but I'd sure like to know how many, or what percentage, of USAC shows have been won with small motors or without sticker tire/tires.

I know that a 383 cubic engine has the track record at manzanita and Oskaloosa wins with dave darland, boston reid, and myself. I also remember winning eldora and terre haute on the same rd20 right rear tire (pre dt3 rule). A better right rear tire will make running different grooves a more likely scenario. Better racing for the fans in my opinion!
P.S. No USAC races have been with big or small motors.... they have been won with big and small ENGINES!!! It would take an extremely long extension cord to run the big tracks! lol |
