marv, i have a tape of both crashes. i'll have to check to see the year. as far as fisher's crash i have never see a car unload on the left rear on a straightaway and start flipping. i didn't think he was gettin out of that one. i know he scared the hell out of the people in lawn chairs in turn 1.

If memory serves me correctly, it was a Friday night crash and the it was a two day show at Eldora in 1992. We tore down that car during the next week and built up a second car and he won at Kokomo that following Sunday.

According to my handy/dandy steno pad notes from 1993, the Gary Fisher thrill show in his #79 occured on Saturday night 5/7/93 on his first qualification lap. This was the second Eldora night of the 1993 CRA eastern tour which had the feature won by a chap some of you might remember () by the name of Lealand McSpadden.

On the previous night (Friday) Gary had timed in at 17.923, won the second heat from the pole, started 15th and finished 13th in the feature won by Jack Hewitt.

After the CRA tour returned from the far east (PA) leg of their travels, they ran The 'Burg on Saturday night, 5/22/93, where Gary Fisher ran fourth in the featch won by yet another somehow familiar name, Kevin Briscoe . Only 8 CRA cars were still competing by this time.

32 - Don Tucker

I always wondered what happened to him. He owned a....um....er.... cultural event center up near LAX. Sold it and disappeared.

Troy Cline was buddies with Joe Custer who went on to be the GM of Haas Motorsports. Troy moved to NC to work for the team when it first formed. I saw him at Ventura a couple months ago where he was watching his son race. I didn't get much time to talk to him but I gathered he flew in to watch the race so I would guess he's still involved in taxi racing.

I busted out laughing...

Jack is laughing too, and says "Rip, this ain't California, we don't run around the bottom here. You're gonna have ta' get up by the wall and stand on it"

Rip looks at Jack for a second or two and says "Are you serious?"

Jack says "Yep!"

Rip then says "Well sh*t"...then turns and walks away.

Me and Jack just laughed at him
Those California guys are like that.

In the late sixties Parnelli Jones brother Paul came east to run USAC. The first show was at Reading, Pa. which looked kind of like Ascot and reminded him of home, so he did ok. I'm not sure if there were any shows inbetween, but USAC ended up at Eldora. Paul's down in the fire-up lane running like a bat out of h**l and when he came in, about broke an arm patting himself on the back over how fast he was going. About that time one of the midwest guys came over, pointed at the guardrail and said" Paul the race track is up there ". Paul just looked at the rail and didn't say a word. Two weeks later he was back in California.

The Larry Fritz #8

---------- Post added at 07:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:12 PM ----------

The car was sponsored by Just Jags and Ward's Apparel; also driven by Jim Mahoney and Brad Marvel.

And, of course, Larry Fritz drove the car himself at times.
