aaron fike was allowed to compete on a different night 4 years ago. the circumstances were a bit extenuating.

everyone was lined up to go out and hotlap and a car coming up the ramp had the throttle hang and slammed into the cars waiting to go out. fikes car was pushed into the car that i was working on (sending me over the hood) and i was lucky and saw it coming. the guy that crew chief'd (greg i think was the name) the WIS-CO car that fike was driving was not so lucky. He got pinned up against the steel fencing that seperates the turn 3 and 4 grandstands from the line up chute. I believe he broke his ankle. another wis-co crew member was thrown through the air and landed on a trash can next to us and was knocked out.

Fikes car had front end damage and that plus lack of crew members led to him being allowed to qualify friday (i think) night. luckily our car only had a bent front bumper and kenny lewis ran that night.

elsewhere on the board someone mentioned gary taylor, who was making his chilibowl debut aboard the other conklin car that week. I will never forget that episode. The wis-co guys were parked next to us and everyone ended up being ok and if i remember aaron put it in the show that year too, so i guess the story had an ok ending.

The Daytona test dates are determined by points positions. Different positions, test different weeks.

Cup cars do not even test on Friday the Craftsman Trucks are testing.

Stewart does not test till Monday at DIS.

When you reach the pinnacle of your profession you have earned the right to switch nights at the Chilli Bowl. SMB do you really think TS woke up yesterday am, looked at the line-up and said, "Oh Sh1t I better change nights because so & so is racing? TS won every freaken thing he raced in, guys like him are wired differntly, he doesn't think anyone can beat him!

He's more likely to have a night out with his boys scheduled than anything else.

Also, tell me what promoter would'nt be happyto have a "name " like TS associated with his event? AND NOT CHARGING AN APPEARANCE FEE!

I see this move in a different light. Maybe the Nascar.com web cast had something to do with it. They would be all over him Friday and it would be the TS show. Maybe he does not want that for him or the event. I maybe off track but TS might be trying to save the integrity of the Chilibowl and his play time from that fender crowds. I think is is great!!!!!! The web won't be flooded by a bunch of yahoo's.

Lots of foks have swapped nights. Sometimes you might need to have someone swap their night with you but it is pretty common.

It may be a promoters dream to have a big named star but it is not fair to the other 200+ drivers and teams if that big name star races a different set of rules as everyone else.

I remember drivers switching nights is the past I just wanted to see if it was avalable to everyone or only a select few.

You would think that sanctioned testing at another track would be scheduled far enough in advance it could be worked out with out a conflict before the night draw is determined
