Thanks for clearing that up. I'm not surprised that I got two different places mixed up with my old brain working overtime just to remember that much.

I found a few shots of the 82 race. I would be there every weekend all winter! But driving in snow on Michigan freeways sucks, I can't see anyone doing it weekly hauling a race car.

There were 4 midget races held at the Silverdome. The first year December 6, 1980 was a dirt race won by Gene Gennetten. The second year was supposed to be dirt, but ended up being run on pavement because the dirt was frozen. It was won by Dave Wunrow. The third year was on pavement and was won by Tom Corcoran. The fourth year was also on pavement and won by Don Carter Jr.

Two of those pics give a good indication of how many (few) spectators were there...

Combine that with an adult general admission cost of only EIGHT DOLLARS as shown in the flyer and I applaud any promoter who tried more than once to make that deal a success.

Dang when I was a little kid in 1982 I remember my dad paying 18 bucks on prelim night and 22 bucks per seat on the final night of a World of Outlaws show at a facility that was already a racetrack.

I can't get over this.... wouldn't it be great if the Tulsa Expo Center had half that many seats!!!!! then maybe after i bought a pitpass I could actually get a place to sit on every night of the Chili Bowl...and wouldn't get smashed by everyone else in that section.

OOPS...just realized that was a ticket stub...not a flyer

There was supposed to be a dirt midget race there sometime in the past 10 years. I had bought tickets but the race was cancelled. Ticketmaster held their fees even though the race was cancelled. I probably have them if anyone wants to buy them.

I think it'd be cool to even run there in the summer. Think about it, never have a rain out. Wishful thinking only, but take out the seats at the ends of the thing, make the track a bit bigger, or the corners a bit wider, and that'd be a pretty damn cool place.

That's right. About six years early on Dome demolition when a sprint car flipped.
