although not downtown........but way worth the drive to 86th and 465 on the west side is "Teds Montana Grill" owned by ted turner. they offer fresh bison steaks and beef that is out of this world! just a thought.......plus you wont have to pay $4,000 for a steak.....

There's always Sullivan's. Never been to the one in Indy, but I've been to the one in Raleigh and it's always good. Plus, they are still cigar friendly (if you are so inclined).
And, there's always the Beef Haus up 74 toward Danville. I know it's a bit of a drive, but I've never left there disappointed and the prices are not that bad given the size of the meal. Someday, I will partake of St. Elmos. Heard way too many good things about it. Got to try that shrimp cocktail. Horseradish-heavy? Sounds good to me. |

Am I the only one that likes Bynum's? Now, it isn't one of the trendy, "prime" steak houses, but it is certainly very good. Sort of "old school", but that isn't a bad thing. I can say that I have never had a bad meal there.

Harry and Izzy's. Located next to St. Elmos. It is actually associated w/St. Elmos. Even features the same shrimp sauce. It is owned in part by Peyton Manning and I believe prosecuter Carl Brizzi. Excellent service. It's got a great decor. It is almost like a speak easy or gambling hall with old 500 line ups and boxing matches written in chalk on boards.The seats are Leather with dark wood all around. More and better seating than St.Elmo's.
Mo's Steakhouse downtown is nice as well. Teds on 86th is great. The Ruth's Christ is two blocks North of St. Elmo. |

Sullivan's at Keystone at the Crossing gives St. Elmo's a big run for its money. A little pricey like St. Elmo's, but the filet is among the best you'll ever eat. It has a nice swanky-type New York City vibe and there is usually plenty of eye candy! Famous types like Bob and Tom, some Colts and Larry Bird can be seen there on occasion.
I can't believe you guys put Ted's and Rock Bottom in the same conversation with these other steakhouses! Those places are definitely good, but not in the same class as an Elmo's, etc. |

The Beef House in Covington is one of my favorite restaurants. We drove up from Evansville in late October just to eat there. Great salad bar and wonderful black bean soup! Get it with a dollop of sour cream.
I haven't been to St. Elmo's for years, but I always enjoyed it. I miss the old Steak and Ale chain. Always had good meals there.
