A somewhat recent happening, that proves USAC don't really care what the owners think, was the move to do away with the traditional looking Silver Crown cars that ran pavement, and go with that fugly ******** car (which was a joint screw up with NASCAR involvement) USAC figured it could ride the coat tails of NASCAR.....
Also, a few years back, Winchester Speedway dropped USAC due to their sanctioning fee policy. Winchester has run USAC sprint/midget double headers for years, and then USAC tried to get duel sanctioning fees.
Most times, USAC doesn't give a damn about the racers, or the promoters.
Until something major happens, USAC will continue to basically abuse the racers...and the racers will grumble, but continue just 'doing as they are told'.
A boycott of some races by the teams, will have fans pissed, and USAC will have to make changes. USAC should have enough leverage to get tire companies to make compounds that will last at least all day, if not several. Plus, they need to open the tire rule up to different manufactures.
USAC also needs to find a way to help guys that have dirt cars, to at least have a snowballs chance on pavement. There has to be more than just the cost of tires keeping people from running their cars on pavement.
You are correct in that I haven't been around USAC much. They rarely run down this way. But I am aware they seem to have a problem connecting with their pavement racers and tracks. And even though they are a club, they still have customers and if they aren't providing what their customers want they will lose that part of their business eventually. I plan on starting another thread to discuss the SC situation.
As I mentioned, I've taken part in a racer's boycott of a track. In our case it worked out. It got the promoters attention and I didn't see much fall out from the fans. But it's still a risky undertaking in my opinion. Assuming there are enough cars and interest, which may or may not be the case, someone will be able to fill this niche. Hoosier can build a tire that lasts and if they won't then American Racer or someone else will.

IMO and in all due respect --
Change has proven over & over again to be, at best, accepting the status-quo.
And, at worst, blatantly self-serving and fraught with collusion.
And, now, dangling by a thread over a huge sea of racing irrelevance...
Pretty tall order...Maybe, I'm misinformed?

Yes, perhaps it has. On the other hand if you remove all of my posts, those of observer whining about my thread and posts and Needs, this thread still has run over 8 pages, more than most threads currently running. So someone is still interested.
You don't seem misinformed to me. You seem to have wrapped it up pretty succinctly in 3 lines. And you've at least enlightened me on this subject.
To me, either USAC steps up and makes a concerted effort to bring up their car counts or someone else, HOSS or the other series that has been mentioned, or perhaps a new group gets people together.
