When I first got there, I went to the pits and walked around to get an idea of who was there. And that turned out to be like getting dealt five cards and realizing that four of them were aces! Man, was this ever a lineup that was stacked deep with almost every star that you could think of!
The one lap qualifications seemed to benefit the ones that went out early. One definite exception was Jon Stanbrough, who went out late and really nailed down a great looking lap. Unfortunately, the electric eye malfunctioned and he had to be called back out from the pits to repeat his qualification attempt. That lap did not look as good as the first did, but still was like third quick.
The action in the heat races was outstanding! From top to bottom, one of the best set of heats I've seen in a while. At this point, the racing surface was friendly to those that wanted to run low or high.
With the higher car count, there were two B-Mains. And, unfortunately, even though each was stacked with talent, only one driver would transfer from each. One thing that was noticable during the semis was that the top was definitely going away, as each winner won driving a huggy pole line. Would this be a harbinger of things to come?
For the first five to ten laps of the feature, that would seem to be the case. The high path, especially in 1 and 2 was a real tough place to make a living and the pole sitter had run away and hid, from just a few feet above the tires. Blake Fitzpatrick hunted and pecked for quite a few laps on the high side of the tough side of the track and was the one who finally found the way that it could be run. In doing so, he was able to track down and pass Levi, Darren and Jon. Then, most of the other drivers followed suit and the race got better, from that point (including the leader). And even though DD checked out and was in a different Zip Code than every body else was, the racing from 2nd on back was excellent.
When I went to Morgan County Speedway last year, I remember leaving there thinking that this was a very cool facility, but maybe they weren't used to doing the type of track prep that our kind of tracks are used to doing. This year, I went back and left still thinking it was a cool facility, but the difference is that somebody obviously has been doing their homework on the track prep part. It was a good night at the races and well worth the long drive and late return time.

:thumbI agree completely.
I think to keep the debates & arguments down with the teams they might adopt:usac: Usac rules for the nite. The lineups were a bit confusing which is why I had the feature wrong.
Now I hear they may be going back to wings next year. I was happy & surprised to see a very packed house (especially with High school football going on), I hope this gives a strong vote to bring back the regular traditional sprint cars next season.
I would like to see All tracks run just 1 support class with the open wheel sanctions and /or with so much ca$h on the line. I was sure glad I made the trip. Now I'm off to Macon to watch Powri & 4 other classes....looks to be a long nite@!#$%*$#^ But about 2 1/2 hour shorter drive.
Peace & love to all.
God bless our Troops at home and abroad.

I hope they bring the wings back and run non-wingy huggy pole as a support classs.
Didn't sound like an exciting feature at all, but I wasn't there.

It wasn't, but I know they will have a better track at Haubstadt tonight so maybe it won't be huggy pole, but if there is a cushion you know it will be hard to pass on the bottom here too. I like it when there is 2 grooves to run.

If they bring back the wings I'm guessing I will spend a lot more time in Indiana next year. They can bring back the wings and all go really fast and follow each other all night, thats just not for me. I was there last night and if I remember right they were running top and bottom in the feature. Hunter, Jon and Fitzpatrick put on a great show running for second. I am sure Haubstadt will have a racier track, no one prepares a track better than Tom Helfrich. I enjoyed last nights races, although I would have liked to have seen the Sprint feature ran before the two support classes ran their features. I have learned not to be to critical of a track or a driver if I was not actually there to see it, anything else is just heresay from one persons opinion. Spoon River is running Wings tonight and its 50 miles from where I live.......I will be driving the three and one half hours to Haubstadt...Thanks Kim and Bill for a wonderful night....hope you made a couple bucks

I don't think it was huggy pole at all. There were guys high and low. DD could get so low in turn one, he would get a great bite. Nobody else was holding it down there like him. He was about 2 inches from the tire, lap after lap. He was literally running on the wall in turn 4. He definitely had em' covered, but there were good cars running all over the track. I thought it was a great night. It was a little long, but it was great to see so many good drivers at J-ville. About the Yeley-Clayton incident: I thought JJ slid up in front of Clayton. I think the best thing to do would be to give them both their spots back. It was fun to watch the black and yellow 92 banzai his way back through the pack, though. I wish he would have made the feature.

I agree. It was a great night of racing The first two heat races. Then the drama with Yeley & Clayton at the start of the 2nd B-Main, which led to the caution drama, which led to the gettin in to each other drama, which led to Clayton being screwed out of his position by a call the track should have never made, then Clayton coming from the back to pass Yeley, and Stopping at the tower to argue with the officials. Not to mention in the feature Hunter gets tangled up early and ends up near the back and runs about 38 laps without a caution to get to fighting for second on the last lap and spins out. Best night of racing I've seen!

I agree completely Mr. SpfldMile. I will be at Macon tonight. I'm willing to do updates with my palm if possible.
