Oh, and about the racing......let me join the others here in congratulating Jerry Coons, Jr. and the entire Hoffman team on their super run and popular win.
A couple of other guys I'd like to mention. It was good to see Kevin Studley compete for what I believe to be the first time at the "new" 'Burg. He said looking into the sun down the backstretch was a challenge in his heat, but he was having more fun than he does at his "day job". Glad he made the feature and hope he left with a few bucks to the good.
You won't find a nicer bunch than the Whited's from Richmond. Both Brian (Dad) and Brandon (driver) took lots of time to reacquaint with us. Was hoping Brandon could put the low budget #31 in the show and he was sooooo close until getting collected by a sideways Joss Moffatt in the #2C. The resulting flips and gyrations took our breath and we were greatly relieved to see Brandon climb out, apparently O.K.
Also hated to see Fitzpatrick out of it before he even had a chance to get in it. Flip didn't look too bad, but plenty bad enough to put them back in the hauler for the long drive back to Terre Haute. As others have posted here, this young man has arrived and keeps getting better.
Best of all, was the excellent night had by the #98 Chad Boespflug team. Bob Gatten had been telling us of chasing engine gremlins with lots of bucks but little success for the past few weeks. Last night it looked like they are close. First heat (won by Chad) duel with Coons, Jr. might have been the best heat race I've seen this season at the 'Burg. And a 12th place feature finish in that star studded field has to be a confidence builder.
