It is with great delight that I can deliver the news that Andrew's MRI from yesterday came back stable with no recurrence of the disease. This was MRI #10, so he is building a pattern that we pray will continue. His mother is very guarded in her emotions and I am going to give you her quote, which really surprised me. She said, "I have a confession. We have hope. True, genuine, give you quivers, and rock you to your soul, hope. It has snuck up on us. With each stable scan, with each milestone met, with each illness conquered, with each smile, each and every day. It has dribbled in, it has leaked out. It has become a part of our breath, that very end of the inhale, we you think, oh...just maybe; Andrew might defy the odds. He might grow old. He might go to kindergarten. What a dream..."
Last week was truly great, as medically all went well. He had his monthly labs (all normal) and breathing treatment, which he handled very well. His lungs are clear and he sounds great. He will continue with his daily breathing treatments at home to try and keep any future respiratory issues to a minimum.
On Wednesday, Andrew started the Early Childhood Preschool Program, which is a special education, preschool through the local school district. He goes to school four mornings a week with 11 other 3 year olds. The school system went the distance to help get him classified for this program. It should give him a little extra help with his speech articulation and gross motor skills. The little guy is very excited as he will now ride the bus, yes a school bus, two days a week after school. It sounds crazy, but they harness the three year olds in their seats and off they go.
My daughter-in-law reports that Andrew knows and understands that he has cancer. He is starting to ask a lot of questions and she said that so far they are trying to be honest and open with him, while also being age appropriate. Some folks might not agree, but at this point it seems to be working okay.
I will again end this post with a great big thank you to all who follow along on Andrew's journey. With your thoughts, well wishes, gifts and prayers, the last 19 months have seemed much more bearable. You have all made a difference in our lives and Andrew's, while showing just how wonderful race fans can be. We continue to Hope, Dream and Believe. Hope to see you at the races soon.
Mike

Mike, this report is truly great news. You all remain in my prayers and I have a picture in my mind of Andrew boarding the school bus with his infectious little smile just grinning from ear to ear. He is a remarkable little guy.
God Bless You All,

Kim and I are very pleased to hear about Andrew's continued progress.
I find these Andrew Updates drawing me back to reality occasionally. The lives of children are so precious, and people often get lulled into blithely thinking all is well everywhere when they don't have major issues effecting their own close relatives and friends. Those of us who do not go through every day facing the emotional pressures that Andrew's family endures should all be sure to keep the Padfields (and other families in similar circumstances) in our thoughts and prayers.
