For Immediate Release

Coleman Gulick Racing (CGR) of Binghamton, New York and Brownsburg, Indiana would like to announce their partnership in 2009 with Dr. John Deuel of Phoenix, Arizona to compete in the United State Auto Club’s (USAC) Premier Division; Asphalt Silver Crown Touring Series. Gulick will drive a Bob East built, Beast Silver Crown Car.

Dr. John Deuel, a Trauma Surgeon based in Phoenix, is no stranger to Motorsports. He has fielded Championship Teams in the 360 Wing Sprint Car Ranks and also fielded an Asphalt Silver Crown Car in 2003.

“I have followed Coleman since he began racing full size Sprint Cars at the age of 12 in Pennsylvania” said Dr. Deuel of his selecting Gulick for this opportunity. “Coleman has always shown an ability to be very competitive regardless of what type of Car, size of Engine, or Racing Surface”. “He is always respectful of his equipment but shows an aggressive nature when it is necessary”. “Coleman was a novel racer that is no longer a Novelty”. “I am anxious to see how far we can go with this endeavor”.

“This is huge step in Coleman’s development as a Professional Race Car Driver” said Pete Gulick, Managing Partner of CGR and Coleman’s Father. “We are honored that Dr. Deuel reached out to us with this tremendous opportunity”. “Dr. Deuel has a long, storied History of providing top notch equipment so his Drivers can be competitive right away”. “To be given a chance to race in USAC’s Premier Division is something that we thought was a couple of years away” said the Senior Gulick. “However with Dr. Deuel providing Team CGR with this opportunity in 2009, it will certainly help with Coleman’s growth as a Professional Race Car Driver”. “We are thrilled with this opportunity”.

Coleman’s thoughts on this Partnership: “I am very grateful to Dr. Deuel for giving me this chance” “There are so many young drivers out there like me trying to make a name for themselves”. “I am honored that Dr. Deuel chose me to drive his car”. “This will give us a great chance to Race with the best drivers in the Country which will certainly help me as a Driver”. “And, competing in the USAC Asphalt Silver Crown Division will allow me to race at some of the nicest, most competitive Asphalt tracks in the Country”. “We are going to do our very best for Dr. Deuel”.

As excited as the new Team is about Coleman competing in USAC’s Premier Division, it will have to wait until mid Summer 2009 since Gulick will not turn 16 until the end of July. Because he is emancipated for motorsports, Gulick has received permission from USAC to compete in the Silver Crown Division without restriction once he turns 16. The Team does plan to test at several locations before Coleman takes his first Green Flag in competition, something that he has done in each of his previous promotions as a Driver.

The Schedule as it stands today will see Coleman make his USAC Silver Crown debut on Friday, July 31, 2009 at the Rusty Wallace Designed Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa. The Silver Crown Division opens for the NASCAR Nationwide Series which will test on Friday night then Compete on Saturday. Iowa’s Silver Crown Race is scheduled for 100 Laps. From there the Team will compete at the famed Oswego Speedway in Oswego, NY on August 6th, The Milwaukee Mile in Wisconsin on August 29th and will finish up the Silver Crown Series when they compete in the Copper World Classic at Phoenix International Raceway in Arizona. That weekend of racing is on the same card with the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. The complete USAC Schedule and various Divisions can be found at www.usacracing.com.

Team CGR and Dr. Deuel will hold an Unveiling of their Silver Crown Car during an open house at the Teams New York Race Shop. On Saturday, March 21st from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Coleman and his team will join Dr. Deuel in welcoming Race Fans, Sponsors, the Media, other Drivers and interested Marketing Partners to the Shop located at 1429 Upper Front Street in Binghamton, NY. The Car will be on Display for everyone to view while enjoying food and drinks compliments of the Team. It is open to the public so please plan to join the Team for the Unveiling.

In addition to the USAC Asphalt Silver Crown Division in 2009, Coleman Gulick will also compete in the 410 Non Wing Sprint Car Ranks throughout the Midwest, select ASCS 360 Wing Sprint Car National Shows, 410 TNT Sprint Bandit Touring Series and the Ford Focus Midwest Division.

In addition to Dr. John Deuel, Team CGR would like to thank Hazardous Sports, Rob’s Market, Sprint, Van Cott’s Nursery and Landscaping, Hot Head Engine Heaters, and Power Mist Racing Fuels for their continued support.

I'm confused....I thought USAC had a rule where you couldn't run a track larger than 7/10 if you were under 18, emancipated or not?

Here is the rule as stated in the 2009 USAC Rule Book:
3.5 Age - Before a person shall be eligible for a license in the United States Auto Club (USAC), and participation in a USAC
sanctioned race meeting, such person must be eighteen (18) years of age or older. A driver under the age of eighteen (18)
years, but not less than sixteen (16) years of age, who has complied with Indiana Senate Enrolled Act No. 623, or like
recognized ACTS of other States enabling partial emancipation of a minor, will be eligible for consideration by USAC for an
annual membership/license(s) to compete in USAC National events.

On Selected oval paved tracks larger than 7/10 (0.70) mile all drivers must be eighteen (18) years of age. The partial
emancipation process of a minor will apply for events minors are allowed to participate and not apply for events minors
are not allowed to participate.
The entire rule is listed on page 4 of the USAC RULE BOOK.

Sandy,

So the way I read that is, he still can't particpate on selected oval tracks over 7/10 of a mile right? But in the release it states he's without restriction. So which is it? Did the rule change this year....didn't Cole Whitt not get to run PIR last year and he was emancipated. Just curious.

Cole did run Phoenix last year but not Richmond. The Richmond date is the last weekend in June which is before Gulick is supposed to start. I am not sure if they are allowing anyone under 18 to compete at Richmond this year, I'm just going by what happened last year.
