I am 61 years old and most of my heroes no longer race and some have passed away. I live in Southern California, but grew up in the northern part of the state. My early heroes included Fred Hunt (Stockton 99 Speedway), Gary Patterson, Nick Rescino and national of course the great A.J. Foyt.
Moving to Socal and being away from open wheel racing for a period of time, I again returned to racing at the PAS. I guess at my age it is hard to find a hero anymore, but I found a new one at that track. Tony Jones became my hero while watching him do some amazing things while racing with SCRA/USAC/CRA. He was by far the most exciting and popular race car driver to watch at that great race track. It will certainly be difficult this year with no Tony Jones in the field, but life (racing) goes on I suppose. Even though I live on the left coast I would like to thank you for allowing me the opportunity to have my say on your terrific Indiana message board. I visit everyday. :respect: |
