Hey guys, To be fair, I was the UMRA Chief Steward in 1994 when this happened. What I was told, was that Billy was not 16 yet. A rule is a rule, and I told both Jr. and Sr. this. As you can understand, they were not happy. However, what I was NOT told, was that Billy Jr. had raced the season before. To make matters worse, I believe this happened at an out-of-state race, meaning they hauled everything that far for nothing. This was a crappy thing to do to them. This was behind the scene ******** that I had no knowledge of at that time. Had I known this before hand, the best I could have done would have been to call them & tell them not to show. Sorry, but the way the rule book read, that was the best I could have done. I did not know about the previous year. I hope this public apology to the Puterbaugh family will help smooth things over for my part in this mess. I am only apologizing for myself, not the "powers that be" that omitted the other half of the equation from me. For what it is worth, I am truly sorry. Charlie Dwenger |

I'd say let him race. I know if I would of had the chance to race at that age, I would have lied too.

Suspend the driver for the first 5 races of his first eligible season, then welcome him with open arms and leave it in the past.
Thanks for the stand-up deal Billy...time for everyone to move on. Keith http://racingsafety.blogspot.com/

Maybe I don't quite understand what emancipation of a minor means. I thought in Indiana this is how they define it:
IC 34-28-3I read this as meaning that a judge has determined you are mature enough to sign the paperwork that is required to compete in automobile racing as a driver. If a 14 year old becomes an emancipated minor can he/she go to the BMV and get a drivers license? Can they go in a bar and order a beer? Last year Cole Whitt turned 17 a few days before the Richmond sprint race. According to the USAC rule book all drivers must be 18 unless they are not less than 16 and are partially emancipated. So I would assume Whitt is partially emancipated. Whitt was not allowed to compete at Richmond (even though he is emancipated) because USAC has a rule that states you must be 18 or older to compete at selected paved tracks 7/10 of a mile or greater. So, if Cole Whitt isn't allowed to compete at Richmond why do you think a 14 or 15 year old should be able to compete with an organization that has a rule that states all drivers must be at least 16 years of age? Also, if you thought being emancipated allowed you to do everything an adult could do why did you put the wrong DOB on your membership application to show that you were 16? |

I love it. So what do you guys what me to do go back in time skip tq's. Now i kinda wish i would have. Seeing how some many people are gettting there underwear all bunched up. What do you want me to say i did it. I DID IT. Do i care no. It was just a stepping stone and a place to get some laps before sprint cars. So what is the big deal. Are you tell me that Tony or Jeff or JJ have never done anything like that. Come on. So i will sit back and wait for you guys to start typing untill your fingers bleed. Hey dont hate the player hate the game. :cheers
