Good post Drewbie :thumb

The Great:

1) Watching the first two nights' with Ted Bacon. He HAD TO BE the coolest guy in the building.
2) Walking the Expo pits' with K. Eckert. That's almost like walking Sunday Mass with the Pope.
3) S. Eckert, laying odds on Chili Bowl drivers'. Almost impossible and Steve nailed it.
4) Mills giving me a great deal on some DVD's. THANKS:thumb
5) Getting a couple minutes to talk to Morty, Debby and Drew. I look forward to that at every race I know their attending.
6) Hanging with the Frolic crew. That's always a great time.
7) Hanging with Jimmy Jones and meeting Tray Rob. They tell me to keep an eye on this 16 year old on the ASCS Tour this year. Good luck Tray....
8) Getting to talk to Kelly, Leon, Blake, Shane, Hockett and Ballou.
9) Meeting Tyler Walker. Good luck in California this year. See Ya at the Grove...
10) Stopping on the way out and hanging on Lake Ozark with Eckert and Eric Schrock...
11) hell Aero, I didn't drink 5.0 for about 8 months...
12) I'm tired of typing, Ect. Ect. Ect.......

The Bad....

1) Driving 2601.4 miles/42 hours round trip:checkered:

P.S...there was some pretty good midget racing going on in the middle of all this.

P.S.S..I have to add, the ride from Indy to the Chili Bowl and back to Indy was cool. Driving with K. Eckert and listening to the Knowledge, from drivers to car owners to crewman to sponsors to family members to track owners was just (to me) mind boggling. Listening to Kevin talk is as easy as reading one of his columns. His stories just flow, one leads right into the next. So thanks Eck, for making 25 of my 42 hour trip go alot easier:wink.

I agree with all of the good thoughts. Once all the hoorah has come and gone, it's all about the racing, and it was unbelievably good. I hope everyone watched the pack during the Saturday A, because there was fantastic racing going on there.

I have mixed thoughts about your "bads".

-Crowd control is always a problem at a big event. Those of us who are used to being able to wander everywhere at local tracks don't like the way big events are run, but that's life.

- I didn't buy much there, but didn't notice that the prices were any higher.

- My problems with the announcers are two.
-- Only one of them can be heard clearly in the Turn 3/4 stands. I don't know if he has the only good mic, or if he just has a better voice, or what, but I wish he did all the lineups.
-- All the announcers seem to think they are comedians and that they are participating in some kind of talk show. They flap constantly about nothing relevant. Giving the mic to Ms Sather is just one more piece of silliness.

- We're nervous about the "big" accidents. Are the cars going faster down the straights? The fact that so many got into the fence badly enough to require a red to fix it is worrisome. That isn't a really great fence.

- I was a fan of Sammy when he was a kid. As he grew, he seemed to become bitter and whiny, which is rather strange, considering the great success he has had. He's always been a terrible speaker, but I can accept that; it doesn't come naturally to a lot of people. What bothers me is some of the really nasty things I've heard him say during interviews. Nonetheless, he is one of the great drivers of his generation, and a damned good mechanic and engineer, so I have to respect him for that.

- I'm not happy with their adding a 5th night. On Saturday, we didn't arrive until 6:30. At dinner, I was talking about maybe going home on Saturday next year; of course, that was before the great racing I saw in the Cs, Bs and A. :-)

On the subject of "ugly", I think most new midgets and sprints are ugly. I would like to see all cars look traditional. I don't even like the modern, square edged bodies, let alone abortions like the F1.

The cars aren't any faster, but they kept the track faster.

The Good :thumb Great to see many friends from across the country, including "England George", whom many we only see once a year.
As always, it was great to see and visit with Jack Hewitt, in his return to the Chili Bowl. And I was lucky enough to win a photo of his at the silent auction.
Nice to see the Kevin Olson/Steve Stroud combo have a good showing.

The Bad  The Friday lockout (pitpass/ticket deal)

The Ugly  The provisional for the Saturday A-Main. Nothing personal, but with the rough weekend DG had going, I'd rather seen him pass on the freeby. jmo
