Don't take this wrong as I am a big "King" fan. But I always thought that he was to concerned about getting injured without the wing on.

I think it's always been a money/scheduling issue. He runs so many races with the Outlaws, why would it benefit him to squeeze in a non-wing show here and there for pennies compared to the big money he regularly runs for? The 1990 CRA win at Eldora paid $10,000 and was on an Outlaw off weekend.

I doubt the safety thing is an issue for a racer like Steve.

The CRA show at eldora was a $10,000 bonus for a non CRA driver. CRA drivers did not get the bonus. Not taking anything away from Kinser 11. I was there and if memory serves me Shuman was leading by a good margin and blew a tire. I do remember Kinser going into 1 on 2 wheels more than once. Those were great shows at eldora. Kinser is great and it will be interesting to see how well he does against all this great young and old talent that USAC has these days.:greenflag:

It has been several years since I have seen Kinser race at Manzy with the WOO, having him there will certainly add some excitement to Western Worlds.

If this is actually going to happen, it is truly a monumental occasion, and would likely boost attendance of the event to 100% capacity on both nights just by itself. Leave it to the driver with the biggest swinging set ever to regard racing on one of the most lightning fast tracks in existence with no wing over his (sprint) head for the first time in nearly 20 years as good fun. And could Haudenschild possibly be able to let someone else do this and not also join in "the fun"?
Also, one would expect the Kinser merchandise machine to print up about 2000 "limited edition" non-winged t-shirts which would promptly sell out by about 1:00 AM Saturday morning.
Wouldn't Jimmy Jones be a natural to help out the pit crew on this weekend, since the MPHG car is shelved?
Even as I am not going to be able to be there, I would hope this event takes place, because the odds that Steve Kinser throws off the kite, takes one day to dial things in, then makes the top traditional sprint drivers bow before him is a greater possibility than his being an also-ran in the event. Let's never forget that there is no driver in all of sprint history that can diagnose a track quicker and find the fast way around than The King, and has the guts to chase that fast way No Matter Where It Is.
And the car he owns would be the best piece of equipment on that track, without exception.

I'll believe it when I see it. If he does I think the first thing he will notice is non wing guys have stepped up their game. He is a good racer he can adapt.

NO NO NO!!! I think you need to understand when Steve would run without the wing at Kokomo all the other drivers were ******** because they were afraid they were going to get hurt because Steve was running like he had a wing on and lapping the whole field.:checkered:
