I don't know when Don Smith ran the track, but there has been atleast one other person who basically turned the action track into crap, facilities wise.

When we first started working there in April. The PA system didn't work, there were old buildings on the infield that could have collapsed at any moment, the green, yellow and red lights didn't work, the whole place needed a fresh coat of paint, and don't get me started on the track.

I in fact talked to one of the people who used to work on the track. His exact words were, I wish we had the equipment that this group has.

Track wise, the front and back stretch walls on the infield look ten times better than the old metal stuff they had and water no longer ponds on the track. The back stretch was 2 and half feet taller than the front stretch. It is all pretty much even and how it should be now.

If there are any major issues next year, then I will see about the group promoting it now.

Well, ***. I guess I will do something that I normally would not do, and probably should not do, but here goes. Because as most of you know I am part of Lawrenceburg speedway.

First off, if we would not have had our MSCS Fall Nationals race this past Saturday, I damn sure would have been at Terre Haute! This place, in my opinion, is getting a second chance at life when at this time last year nobody knew what was to become of her. Seems ther was a conflict of interest with the mod show and Hut. I don't know tall the cicumstances, but when a big show is rained out and the promoter reschedules, just shows me that you have a promoter that is behind the racers and the fans. We had the same problem last year with our Monster mod race being R/Out and running the next week in conjunction with the Hoosier Fall Classic. Alot of people did not like it, but alot , to my surprise did. it turned into a good nite.

Secondly, maybe things did not turn out time wise or whatever, but there seems to be a very valient effort going on at reviving this grand speedway, and if there was any mistakes made with things this past weekend, which I would not know, they were made because alot of effort is being put into it. My father always told me " Ya can't f*ck up if ya just stand there and do nothing"

I wish everyone invloved with the revamping and restoration of this grand old track the very best of luck! I will see you when we are having a down weekend at the burg.

dave,
very well said -- as you know i was there & yes they did waste a lot of time but i think this year is a learning curve & will be much better next season. --- they did have a great crowd in the stands & the infield was loaded.
