I spoike with Jiggs after the Sprint Week rainout. He mentioned that the city was growing towards them and the tracks existence was limited. Gas City is a favotite track that I have been able to get to each year the last few years and I will sorely miss it when it goes.

I believe he said he just wrote it. Try the next couple of issues.

We live down in the Burg area and try to make at least a half dozen trips to Gas City each summer. I think with the new Burg being what it is, that Gas City has become my favorite track. I would hate to see it go and only hope that someone can keep it going. Bob Bressert

I am sorry to hear if this is the city's way of thinking. Most larger cities are willing to fork out cash for sports venues to help bring people in to support local business. I'm not for governments getting their hands into everything but with Gas citys history and location so close to the interstate it would be a shame for the local government to allow the elimination of this excellent marketing tool. If it were not for the race track I would not know this city existed. The track puts this city on the map for thousands of people that otherwise would have no reason to visit. Lets hope that someone steps up to secure the future of racing at Gas city.

I do not understand, that when the city grows, the race track has to go.

All you have to do is look at Terre Haute, Anderson, some what IRP and the best example is IMS. Salem is another example where the city has almost grown to the track, but you never hear any thoughts of it going away. Haubstadt is no longer in the country all thought I believe Bloomington could, in the future be iffy.

I worry that the property could increase in value so much that it would be hard to refuse the offer that can not be refused.

As much as I hate to say or think it, if property values soar, take the money and run.

You are right the money is the issue, the owner can't resist selling the track for development $$$$$. If local government can see the value of having a sport venue in there jurisdiction then this doesn't have to happen. Every major city in the US should have a race track within it's boundaries. The revenue generated from people visiting these tracks would offset the cost of "subsidizing" either through purchase or incentives. Most people who attend baseball and football games live within the region. Racing is a different animal all together. Most comute to the region from somewhere else. The plus side of revenue from tourism is infrastructure cost, no new roads, no new water mains, no new sewage treatment plants. Want to boost your revenue through tourism, build a race track. What other tourism based revenue does Gas city have? Gas city already has one, a good one, if they let this go they would be making a mistake. I have met people at gas city from California and New York, think these people would be there if not for the track?
