SMOKE does it again.
Tony Stewart has won his 2nd career NHRA Top Fuel race at the NHRA Gerber Collision and Glass Route 66 Nationals at the Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois on Sunday afternoon. He won his 1st career NHRA Top Fuel race earlier this year in Las Vegas. If measured in terms of success in multiple disciplines, Smoke would rank behind Mario & AJ (in whichever order you prefer) & maybe no one else. There is a bit of a gap as I view Mario & AJ as the clear cut 2 greatest American drivers of all time. But in the modern era, Smoke is up there as so few guys attempt multiple things these days. Gordon was great & came up thru the short track scene but once he hit the big time, the midget & sprinter went to the dust bin. Of the current crop Larson has the capability to be on Smoke's level by the time he is done.
Of course there are lots of guys that were great in their discipline but I've always kind of given the nod to guys that are great in multiple types of cars. |
