when there's more than 1 on the same night
Just saw on 7/26 the final night of the Prairie Dirt Classic is same night as 410 Powri sprints at Macon

Now I have no idea which one to pick. I don't prefer one over the other when it comes to late models or sprints, I love both

I have been to PDC went to the pits and it was fun but a long night. I have never seen POWRI 410 Winged sprints but at such a small track like Macon will it be a disaster?

I’ve never been to the PDC, or a winged race at Macon, but have been to both tracks. The PDC is a crown jewel Late Model race that is usually overflowing with fans as you probably already know. I see Macon being more comfortable as far as room to move around than Fairbury. Wings are not unprecedented at Macon which you probably know. Allstars used stop there back in the day as one example. I was at Macon for USAC Sprint Cars and it was good and enjoyable, but in my opinion, it’s on the borderline too small for Sprint Cars. Also ticket price and travel time would be a consideration for me. You know what you’re going to get at the PDC, the best in the business running for big dough. To me the POWRI series is an unproven commodity. Ultimately, your decision but you probably don’t lose in either case

I go to Fairbury quit a bit. Outside of Shadyhill & Kankakee I frequent that track the most. Weekly shows are better the most tracks specials.

Fairbury to me is a mini Eldora and the Prairie Dirt Classic in late July is a mini World 100 on steroids.What they do there is at the very least as good as it gets. Track Promoter & MARS Racing Series (Lm & Mods) owner Matt Curl has done a wonderful job with both the track & series. I fell even the weekly shows are great. The staff there truly cares about the sport and the town loved the track. If I didn’t hate Illinois p0litics so much I’d be very tempted to move there. 4 weekly classes in 2025 with some of the absolute best racing around. UMP DIRTcar Super Late Models, UMP DIRTcar Modifieds, UMP DIRTcar Stock Cars, & Hobby Mods. I have seen all types of racing divisions at Fairbury, including, Late Models, Modified, Stock Cars, Sportsman, Hobby Mods, Crate Late Models, 410 Wing Sprints, Midgets, 410 Non-Wing Sprints, & more. I try to hit every special they have. Just some thought, from my house in Hobart, Indiana to Fairbury, Illinois is exactly 119 miles one way.
P.S. I have been to track from Florida to Wisconsin / Iowa to PA, to Missouri and their track prep is about as good as I have ever seen!


To answer the original posters question

Quality if the show and distance to drive to get to said track and is it a track and race I’m interested in.

I enjoy the big race feel, no matter what division. I’d go to Fairbury even though I much prefer sprints to LMs.

For me the deciding factor is which is the better motorcycle ride…

Several factors play into our choice of what race to go to on a particular night. Distance to travel, number of divisions, length of show and entertainment value for your dollar. Saying that we would go to say Bloomington with three divisions over Circle City with six divisions though the travel time is double for us to go to Bloomington. Quality outweighs quantity and distance.

After all that the choice between Fairbury and Macon would probably come down to quality and which type of car you prefer. Saw MOWA at Macon and they were decent but USAC was better and you can't beat late models at Fairbury. Another factor to throw in is crowd size and comfort of seating and parking.

If you are wanting to see both late models and sprint cars that weekend, go to Fairbury on Friday night and Macon on Saturday night. You'll get your fix at both tracks. But if you go to Fairbury, you most likely will have to buy a pit pass for Friday night. Maybe you can find some reserved seats for sale. Have fun.
