This is a nice topic and hats off to the promoter trying it. We all know that winning races starts at the shop. I do believe a team member type of relationship can start at a track but it might be difficult because the pits are a busy place. I've been turned down by car owners that I wanted to help on race day, they are busy there isn't much time to teach newbies what is going on. I think that if you start off helping a team in their shop it's a more comfortable learning environment and they will have more confidence in you when you go to the track together. My 2 cents.

Against all odds, it may be that one or two folks might express what they see as a bit of cynicism on the part of the promoter. If the usual pit pass price is $40, and the promoter puts forward an offer of a 50% discount, for each entrant who brings another "crew member", the promoter picks up $20 that would otherwise not come thru the gate. Apply whatever shade of lipstick that you will, the underlying substrate remains the same: revenue enhancement.

Not to mention it may mean one more driver or owner in the future to keep the sport we love going and growing. |

I understand what you posted but this thread is about new crew member development. You might not be able to help in the pits but that shouldn't stop you from learning a little something and meeting some of the players in the pits. Everyone has to start somewhere.

Shop help is great, but I started in the era when most guy’s didn’t have four wheelers yet. If you had a guy that only could come and help at the track , send him my way. There are people that are waiting on the opportunity to be involved somehow. If one person gets to live their dream like I did because of this , then to me it’s worth a try! Thanks to Dave Cubel for taking the time and letting this teenager get his dreams first breathe. .
