I complained about the late night at Kokomo a couple weeks ago,but last night, as Pat noted,it was 8:58 when I walked out the gate at Anderson.

No complaints here.

Pat,
His was not a post about Anderson, but rather an excuse to complain about USAC at Kokomo and Gas City. (By the way, I went to a Kokomo-ran show late last year and it ran very, very late. Left the track after midnight and they were still running races. Bet the neighbors were talkiing about it at church that morning. I didn't go back for the second night.)

With most of the DK Promotion races a greater distance ($$$ for gasoline) from me this year than in the past I have not made any of the regional races, unfortunately. But, I know from past years Kenyon's group puts on a great show, with USAC assisting. Their shows were consistently over before 9. 9:15 was a late night.

If he complains about the show being run at Anderson last night, he hasn't got a clue. Apparently he had an important bowling date.:O: Pity the poor slob if he ever goes to the races at any number of tracks that run 5-6 classes a night and he get to see the first feature fire up around midnight. If his beef is with USAC, he needs to find something else to gripe about than the way that show was run. His best bet would be to stay home and forget about auto racing completely. My suggestion would be to find a hobby and get a life!

This was my first regional midget race (and the first time I've seen the Fidgets), and I was a bit disappointed by the car count, but the action was still good. The night was over in 2 hours with heat races for each class, a 15 minute break before the features. The family appreciated that. I think with all of the practice available today and tomorrow, it eliminated the need to run the regional midget show last night for 400 teams.

I'm also a little wierd, I really enjoy seeing the young drivers before they hit it big. Last night was way cool for me. My girls loved it too since Alison MacLeod won.

Pat, it was awesome to hear you call a race again...it's been a while since I've been to one of your races.

Details,

No they qualified (before the stated start time for racing at 7 - ran 5 heats and 3 features.Did everyone think there would be more cars - Yes (after all, a few weeks back there were about 20 regional midgets in the feature) Was there disappointment that there were not more cars - Sure. That's a different issue than how the program was run. Is it a sign for the weekend? The first thing I would point out is that the USAC Silver Crown cars were running last night at Terre Haute and some of those divers will clearly be at Anderson -- but particularly in this economic environment nobody knows for sure who will show. No one really expected the number of cars that showed up at Anderson a few weeks ago - but perhaps that was the date they decided to come by and shake out their cars. Tracy Hines was at Mt Lawn last weekend and no one foresaw that. What I predict, however, is that the 400 at Anderson will be fun to watch and as an inaugural event it would be neat to see.

Pat as someone who has been going to Anderson for a long time let me clue you in on a few things. This place is always weird when it comes to car count. When all the stars align and you think that a certain show will have a very good car count it ends up terrible. Then the next show, there are 2 or 3 other races in the state the same night and they will have 40 cars. its just crazy, you never know exactly what to expect. I have seen the wing sprints travel thru there several times, i think the biggest show they ever had was a night when a different winged series was running at ORP for more money. :O: This is why some times we are a bit skeptical. I think this race is going to be awsome. I deffinatly hope it brings out so guys from in the past. I guess what i was after more than anything else, did last night have any sort feel or look like the Little 500? I think if the speedway can get the 400 to feel like the 500 it will be a huge success.

I'm really looking forward to the 400 at Anderson. I think it can be won from any position and maybe even by an older type midget. The trophy will be cherished long after the money is spent. Should be lots of passing and i hope it becomes an annual event.

I was thinking last night that I think the first time I went to Anderson was 25 years ago for the Little 500 and from that point on I was always excited to go to the track. No I would lie if I said that it felt like a build up to the Little 5 - it didn't - it felt like a regional race - different only in that there was qualifying. In retrospect I think the Silver Crown race hampered this because there really weren't any wild cards in the field. But that said - I love the regional series - of all the things I get to do in racing I enjoy about as much as anything - I like the young drivers - I like working for Don Kenyon - I like the crew that works the races. Donald Davidson went to Mt Lawn last week and called me twice to tell me how much he loved the setting. The car count has been a bit troubling - but the economy hurts everyone. I like the fact that we get there race and go home early. It's not all white knuckle all the time - it is a development series. I can't be at Anderson on Saturday because I work at ORP but I think the 400 will be a lot of fun - and the folks at Anderson have posted a big purse so I hope a lot of people come out for it,
