He told me last night that he would most likely go for the $10,000 at Lawrenceburg.

Hey, Jim! What was the adventure you had with part of a race car coming into the grandstand a few years ago at Granite City?

Ron It was a MOwa heat race and someone started flipping and the car almost cleared the fence, but the car wind up staying on the track side but had parts pitched in to the stands. A guy bout a row right behind me was stuck in the head by I think a torsion bar and went to the hospital for stitches. It was kinda scary.

This thread is of great interest to me. I attended many a Gold Crown/ rainout before the race stopped happening. In the beginning, it was USAC and POWRi working together. It was always a USAC race. I believe the first one or two were co-sanctioned. One year USAC was the sole sanction and POWRi took the weekend off. Then the bitterness of the midget world took over. POWRi went several years cross promoting against the Gold Crown. In the end, it never lived up to the first couple of years shows. As have been stated before, it also had awful luck with the weather.

Now that the show is a POWRi show, I wonder how USAC will respond. Obviously this year is in the books, but it will be interesting to see what happens next year. I would not be surprised to see USAC return the favor to POWRi and schedule a midget race against them next year. Karma is real.

If only the two groups could come together and co-promote the crown jewels.
