First, I want to say that this is not coming thru rose colored glasses, just because we had a good night. In fact, I was seriously thinking about heading home after night 1 because of some on-track stuff that hurt the pocket book immensely.
With that said, NOBODY, and I mean NOBODY promotes D2 racing better/harder than Wayne Davis. When your 900 miles from Wayne's territory, you just see his posts on here and there, and kind of blow it off because it doesn't pertain to me. BUT. After witnessing his work in person, Wayne, his son, and his crew deserve much bigger results than they're getting. Now while a hurricane kind of hurt his core guys from showing up, nothing deterred them from doing everything right for the sport through out the weekend.
Showing up early and taking cars to an appearance in stock car country, to not only educate, but promote the races nearby. They are all over social media promoting. Hooking up with racing local media to get more publicity..... Even after the race to do a local radio show (see link above). Going above and beyond to make us, and other out of towners feel more than welcome.
The biggest thing though that put things over the top on how hard they work at this, was his efforts on Saturday.
The night before, one of his cars blew a head gasket. So, considering him and his son were probably one of the last to leave the first night, I highly doubt they got any sleep getting to the next night. Because of track issues, the first night ran late. We drove to the next night's location, and arrived at 4:40 am. We went to the track about noon after very little sleep to get some work done. Wayne and crew were already there, fully un loaded, and with the head off the engine.... Hence, I doubt they slept at all.
Wayne was leading his son, and their help thru the repairs. The head was on, assembled, and back off at least 3 times thru the day, when finally, shortly before hot laps, a bolt broke inside the engine, ending the attempt to run that night. During all the hard work, Wayne is not only explaining to his guys what needs to be done each step of the attempted repair, he is welcoming everyone that shows up, doing registration and draw, stops and brings us a pair of rear shocks when we only needed one, but he thought we should match brands so he gave us both. Working with the promoter for the nights show. Then sends his son over to explain to us how the gas shocks work (we have never had gas shocks before). Then, with one of the aforementioned local media, does a Facebook live to promote that night's race, and walk by every different engined car to explain the differences.... Again, always promoting and educating.
Everyone on his staff was more than accommodating and helpful. So to you D2 guys around the midwest that can possibly travel a bit, I highly recommend going to run with the Lucas Oil Southern States Midget Series. You will not only enjoy the hospitality, but the nice purses Wayne gets to help pay for the travel!!
So while I have no idea where my life may go between now and February, if you're planning to run D2 next season, try your best to go to his Gator Dirt Nationals for good pay, and good people!

Crankin, that is a very cool write up! Far too often we only hear of the negative. It's really great that you took the time to write this up!!!
