Good call against the four crown. I'll be there. Eldora isn't eldora anymore. Some may like it but half peddal sprints and cut off cushion, isn't what made eldora famous.
Charles, your right about the track, but the event you can't beat. All 3 USAC national divisions, and as of last year, the ASCoC for what, 35 or 40 bucks. There's always great racing and who doesn't love the big car's at the Big E?
Yes, it's against the 4-Crown but there are plenty of drivers that don't run Eldora and the only other race going on that night is LPS so not a bad idea.
It's relatively close for me and I don't care for Eldora much these days so I'll give it a try and support it.
Eldora may not be what it was in a previous time, but go back and watch the USAC highlights from night one of the lets race two in May, and if anyone tells me they've seen many better races, I will not believe them.
Also, there seems to be a misconception about this place being slow now. I assure you after watching the winged sprints from the infield go under 13 seconds in qualifying, it is far from slow. I believe quick time Thursday night of the King's Royal was only a tenth off the track record, a record that I believe was established when weight rules were different and the cars weighed a little less than they do now. I know I'm referring to winged sprints, but the non wing cars weren't slow in May either.
The Big E is still bad fast and still takes a load of courage to run right up against the wall. I was already a big Christopher Bell fan, but I gained so much respect after watching him rip the fence Saturday night of the King's Royal to come from 20th to 2nd with no cautions that I went and bought one of his shirts after the checkers.
The quality of racing is a subjective matter. Speed is not. The laps turned there show Eldora is still wildly fast. The only time I've seen otherwise was last year's sprintacular when it was incredibly slick.
Another fact is no other track offers USAC's top three divisions in one night all year. And for those of us who enjoy winging it as well, we get the all stars. Eldora has great ticket prices, cheap concessions, great racing, and a large seating capacity. It may get dusty, and it may not be the original house Earl built, but Tony is going to continue to get my money because I rarely leave disappointed.
I have been going to Eldora since 1982. The USAC portion of the Friday show was the best I have ever seen there. Good luck at tcrp. I hope things go well. I always try to support the higher paying race on any given night.
